    Updating Drivers - What's the procedure for a successful update?

    I'm having a few problems with my Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver and have been advised by my Laptop manufacturer (Acer) to install an updated driver.

    I have a folder sitting on my Desktop called WLAN Broadcom 5.60.18.8 but I don't know how to go about installing the Driver from this.

    I am aware that I should create a restore point before I start the process, and that the first part of the update action is;

    Open Device Manager > Expand Network Adapters > Right click on Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter > From the drop-down menu > Select Update Driver Software... and now I'm lost!

    Advice is needed to complete the process

    Hi there ... Well if it's an .exe file, I'd just run it. If you've downloaded a zip file containing the drivers, unzip its contents to a folder, open device manager, right click the device .., update drivers, select Install from a specific list or location (Advanced), select Don't search, click Have Disk on the following screen, and then browse to the folder where you extracted the Broadcom drivers and select the inf file.

    Could you tell/show us what is exactly inside that folder?

    If it is a raw driver package with .inf files, than the next step would be to pick 'Browse my computer for updated...' and point that option to the folder that is sitting on your desktop. Windows will automatically install the driver.
