    Any Toshiba issues?

Seems like most folks I've talked to are trying out Win7 on desktop rigs. I'd like to put it on my GF's new Toshiba Satellite A305; what should I expect? Is Win7's laptop support better than WinXP? I'd hate to have to keep the POS Vista Home Basic it came with, but she might expect it to, ya know, boot...

Freakin' laptop makers love using oddball hardware and adding "features" that require their custom "patches". On her previous Toshiba, a clean install of WinXP Pro SP2 would boot maybe 1 try out of 10, even after installing every driver and patch they offered on their support site.

I installed the Windows RC on a Toshiba Satelitte A305 yesterday. You will have to do a clean installation. If you dont have a Toshiba recovery disk, I'd suggest ordering one just in case of emergency.

The only issue I had was after windows went thru the install... it hung on "setup preparing desktop for first use" for about 45 min... not good. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing the SATA controller from ACHI mode to Compatibility Mode. I reinstalled the RC and everything worked great,
it might also ask for a "Toshiba Firmware Linkage Driver". I had this issue and it turned out that it is a password utility that Toshiba must use. (havent had any issues by not installing it) I havent seen any performance issues.

The video chipset, wireless network, and built in webcam works just fine. Aero works. A side note: you will have to go to www.support.toshiba.com and download the camera utility for your model and install it in vista compatibility mode. Worked for me. Camera works great.

Windows RC rocks on this toshiba Boots up in 65 secs... no BSOD(yet lol), sleep/hibernate work... and no probs with it not booting

ps: installed RC on a Dell Laptop and a custom build desktop and both work great!!

    So far only a few...

    I'm running RC1 (7100) x64 on my Toshiba A200.

I've gotten most things to work correctly with Toshiba drivers.

Currently I have the following not working:

    SD Card reader
    Full Midi support
    Drivers for SATA stack

I have not finished testing the following:
    Intel 965 On Board Video.
    External jack for S-Video.

    Other issues.
    Integrated WebCamera control panel.

Most of everything else is working.

    Thanks, guys!

The SD card driver could be an issue. She uses the machine for photos.

    Found it

The SD card driver is made by Texas Instruments.

Here's the newest driver that I found right now. There might be an even newer one elsewhere, but this one had the 64 bit Vista driver so it worked for me.

Was also able to get a new stack for the SATA memory controller. Now for the PCI controller that seems to be missing.
