Driver to enable GPS on WWAN 3G 5530 card

Hi all, I am running Windows x64 on my Dell Studio XPS 1340. I recently plugged in a (Ericsson) Dell Wireless 5530 Internal WWAN Mini Card HSDPA 7.2 Mbps in. This card has a GPS function. Although I could install all the drivers, where broadband modem worked, no errors in Device manager, the GPS could not fixed the signal (I ran it in clear sky open air for about half an hour).

Does somebody has the same problem, and how to get the right driver and/or configure correctly this device? Thank you

    Maybe something with the antenna?

I was the one who plugged it in, and the broadband radio signal reception works very good (sensitive and stable), even in low mobile telephone signal coverage area. I have been working in an area where my mobile phone disconnects more often than my internet connection, as this might shows that the assembly should be fine.

    Thanks for our comments, anyway

Do you have a 3G SIM from your cellphone/mobile broadband carrier? I believe this is required for the GPS to function 100%.

Well your System Spec's is empty and you state you are running Windows 7 64 but did not include which version. To the best of my recollection these devices worked well with XP and multiple problems with Vista, specifically not linking, and holding, onto GPS signals. If you have Professional or Ultimate you might try running virtual XP and load all the drivers etc for the unit and it will probably work and might be the only way for it to be operational for you. Did you check to see if there was a Firmware update for the unit? Best of luck.

Great! My OS is Win7 x64 Ultimate, and the driver version of my GPS (found in Device Manager) is 1.0.0.29.

Good to know that there is a possibility to run virtual XP, as I will give a try, but can you tell me how to do it? :)

Go to the MS Virtual XP Page Windows Virtual PC: Home Page there are some downloads to do then it is a step by step to set up the VHD (Virtual Hard Drive) uses a small amount of drive space and loads only when you wish to use Virtual XP.

thanks, fishnbanjo. I will give a try, but it seems to mess up my system just to get this device to work... hic. A better alternative is to wait until there is a x64 bits driver available then

Don't understand what you mean by "it to mess up my system just to get this device to work... hic." Do you mean XP is messing up your PC or the driver is?
