Huawei USB Modem driver installation failed on Win 7 x64

    Hi All,
I am facing some hard time installing the driver for my Huawei USB data card. It works fine on 32bit Windows. The most amazing thing is it even worked on the 64bit Windows I have on this laptop but now stopped working.

I reinstalled Windows 2 days back and tried to install the data card immediately before installing any drivers / windows update. I was amazed to see that working (see attached screenshot "Successful Datacard installation_with new Win7 installation.png").

But after i installed all the drivers and ran windows update, the device stopped working. I tried to reinstall the driver, it just fails to install.

I am using Huawei EC 1262 USB mobile datacard. I have used the updated drivers available from both manufacturer's and service provider website.

    or
    Reliance Netconnect

But still issue persists. I am sure that some driver conflict is going on, but I am unable to trace.

Any help from anyone will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I did try system restore, but I cant see the relevant restore point. I have installed many programs during the last two days, have restore point only from yesterday

I made a big mistake of not taking a backup at that point.

Now whenever I try to reinstall the driver, windows do not shut down. Have to manually power cycle the system.

Yes, I did... I am well versed with Windows :)

I am trying to find the root cause of this conflict.

try uninstalling the driver just like what Pebbly mentioned, and then try change automated driver installation settings.
Go to START>Right click Computer and select Properties>Advanced System Settings on the upper left hand side>Hardware tab>Windows Update Driver Settings.Choose the "Ask me each time...'"setting, click OK and apply.Reboot
