Windows freezes every few minutes Hi
I have Lenovo ideapad U330.
I have this problem that windows is freezing every few minutes for a few second and than comes back to normal.
Every time my computer was freezing I could only move to mouse and minimize windows.
I checked the even viewer and I noticed that every time my computer was freezing I got this error: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."
The source is "atapi"
Event ID: 11
I tried to disable the controllers in the Device Manager but it still freezes.
Please help!! | My System Specs

It seems it's your hard drive. With my experience, a quick scan with CCleaner , a malware scan, and AV scan (not simultaneously, seperately) seems to speed things up. However, i just saw in another post (i will come back and edit to give credit) a Hard Drive diagnostics tool that you can use to find the problem should the things i listed don't work.
We'll need some more information such as:
Have you dropped your laptop recently? Has any other hardware changed recently?

The atapi driver is associated to your CD/DVD/Blu-Ray etc. You might wand to download CCleaner and Drivesweeper and extract them.
Go to the Lenovo site and download the latest drivers a firmware revision for your drive, if there is a firmware revision follow the instructions from Lenovo on how to perform an upgrade. Go to Control Panel and Device Manager and DVD/CD Rom Drives and uninstall your drive. Run Drivesweeper and clean any drivers having to do with you drive then run CCleaner and clean any Registry issues it has and reboot. Your PC will find new hardware and then you can point the device to upgrade the latest drivers going back to it in Control Panel and choose update. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DELL XPS Studio 435T OS Vista 64 Ultimate, Windows 7 64 Ultimate, Ubuntu 9.10 CPU i7 975 3.3 GHz Extreme (Factory OC'd to 3.6 GHz) Motherboard DELL provided Memory 18 Gb Tri-Channel 1066 Graphics Card ATI 5970 2048 Mb Sound Card X-Fi Extreme Gamer Monitor(s) Displays Vizio 37" HD-TV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Performance K350 Wireless Mouse Logitech Performance MX Wireless PSU DELL Provided 475 watts Case DELL Cooling 3 fans Hard Drives 1.5 Tb HDD

Hi.
Thank you for the quick replay. I tried everything, Update all the drivers, Changing them, Even to disable the dvd drive in the bios, also the CCleaner and the Drivesweeper, and still its freezes.
So I called Lenovo support and they worked with me online and they decided that my Hard-Drive or the cable or the Motherboard are not working well. And I still have warranty so I'm about to ship the computer to Lenovo. | My System Specs

Sorry your system needs to be shipped back, at least you have the comfort of a warranty and should be back with it soon. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DELL XPS Studio 435T OS Vista 64 Ultimate, Windows 7 64 Ultimate, Ubuntu 9.10 CPU i7 975 3.3 GHz Extreme (Factory OC'd to 3.6 GHz) Motherboard DELL provided Memory 18 Gb Tri-Channel 1066 Graphics Card ATI 5970 2048 Mb Sound Card X-Fi Extreme Gamer Monitor(s) Displays Vizio 37" HD-TV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Performance K350 Wireless Mouse Logitech Performance MX Wireless PSU DELL Provided 475 watts Case DELL Cooling 3 fans Hard Drives 1.5 Tb HDD
