Can't upgrade Vista to Windows 7 bc nVidia drivers

I'm having this really weird problem.

I am currently running a GeForce 9500 GT on vista and have tried upgrading to Windows 7 release candidate 1 from Vista. The problem is, Windows 7 doesn't like the Nvidia drivers I have on my system. So I uninstalled them. Completely. Restarted. Tried the upgrade again, and boom! Still can't upgrade because Nvidia drivers / nview desktop manager (yes, that is what it says).

I have literally restarted my computer 20 times, uninstalling, reinstalling and whateverinstalling. I have no idea what to do in order to upgrade to windows 7. The drivers or my actual hardware is not letting me upgrade.

    Has anyone had this problem?
    Just looking for some advice...

    Frustrated individual,

Check under Control Panel>Uninstall a program and see if there is anything from nvidia you can uninstall from there.

Or you could try running the free Driver Sweeper:

Yeah each time it gives me the "error" message after clicking upgrade, I have uninstalled the nvidia drivers and rebooted, but to no avail.

I'll give that driver sweeper a try and report back. Thanks for the quick reply!

Can't upgrade Vista to Windows 7

I don't know what is going on, but I just uninstalled nVidia drivers to be allowed to upgrade, and then I get this...

The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.

    • An error prevented a required compliance check from completing. Cancel the installation and try upgrading again.
Upgrading Windows will affect the following features:

    • Windows Vista Ultimate Extras have been discontinued and will no longer be available after upgrading to Windows 7
It's just a general error message, describing absolutely nothing.

Does anyone know what I can do?

    Any help appreciated,

    Hi,

I take it you are not concerned about Ultimate Extras being discontinued.

I believe that is the error you might get trying to upgrade to the RC from a version of 7 earlier than 7077.

It uses a file called cversion.ini to check the version number of the Host system.

So would I delete the file?

Normally need to reduce the minclient to a lower number than the Host 7 build version. Not sure with Vista, though -should be able to upgrade from Vista without doing that.

You must have SP1 installed - it checks for that.

I guess I will uninstall my SP1 and reinstall it to check and see if that is the problem. Every message I have seen involving upgrading windows vista to 7 shows a warning about ultimate extras, not an actual "error"
