HP Photosmart P1000 driver

I've got a HP Photosmart P1000 printer since several years ago. I'm happy with it (I don't need/want to buy a new one) but HP no longer supports it. The latest drivers are from 2003 (for windows XP x32).

However I got it to work in Vista x64 using the drivers for HP deskjet 930C which were listed in 'add printer' wizard (add printer > add local printer > USB001 > choose brand and model); so I've tried the same method in W7RC x64. The problem is that the HP DJ 930C driver is not included in Windows 7.
I can't download that driver from HP's web because it's only available in Windows Vista (I mean the driver is included in Vista but it's not accessible as a standalone driver).

Any idea or workaround?
Thanks in advance

If during the add printer process you select Windows Update, it will return an additional list of printers including the 930c. It will take upward of 10 minutes to get a response back from Windows update and during this time it seems like the Window is frozen but it is not. Be patient.

I also have an hp photosmart 1000. I have tried installing the driver as described here, but I do not know how to associate my printer with the driver. In the list of printers there is my unspecified Photosmart P1000 and then under printers and faxes the "printer" that i just installed the driver for.

any help, am i missing a step?

Printer driver

hi Kuzzimm
i will try to help i think i can remember
First open device and printers click on the hp 1000 printer this will open a new window click on customise your printer click on advanced tag you should see a box that marked new driver click on that and as they say the rest is history.

Yes, I see what you are talking about, however this only comes up when i double click on my imaginary 930c printer.

my photosmart 1000, which is under the heading unspecified does not have these options. When i double click on the 1000 a menu pops up similar to the properties menu if i were to right click on the 930c printer.

The only thing that comes up in the properties of the photosmart 1000 is under
hardware it says USB Printing support.

would really love to get this printer to work. thanks for the help in advance.
