Today and install Windows 7 on my pc before using Windows XP, but wanted to upgrade a little, well the drivers that used in Windows XP, I ran all exept the sound, I used a SoundMAX on windows XP, download it via Web official says it is for XP, but all the other drivers to install on dell.com also says they are for XP, but because the others worked exept that of audio_) tells me that is not compatible with my operating system when I give install.

You might need to install it in compatibility mode

to do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>pick XP sp3.

I have not had very good luck with the Dell GX260 and Windows 7. The GX270 works fine. I would try flashing the BIOS on the GX260. You will have to build a DOS boot disk to do it. It is on the Dell support site.

The 260 is an old one, might not like the onboard sound. You can always get a $10 audio card, might be a bit more if you need a half-height card (small form-factor needs half-height.)

If you get the onboard audio working, please post what driver you end up using.

The ADI 198x Integrated Audio was used in later Optiplex Computers and DELL has them available at Drivers and Downloads Why they did not officially update the GX260 page is not understandable unless it is how they end support once a PC reaches a certain age they simply stop updating. Hope this helps.
