HP Laserjet 1015 won't work with its own driver (64-bit)

    Hi

I have an HP Laserjet 1015 which both HP and Microsoft state is compatible with both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7. When I plug it in after installing a W7 OS, I get the following message-

    1. Inserting driver.
    2. Driver software was not successfully installed.
    Followed by this-

    1. DOT4 USB Printing support – Ready to use
    2. IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer – Ready to use
    3. Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support – No driver found
    4. You can change your settings to automatically search Windows update for drivers.
I have tried updating the device driver, but Windows tells me the driver is up to date-

    1. Update Driver Software.
    2. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
    3. DOT4 USB Printing Support.
I found a way to make it work with 32-bit W7 by using EZInstall, available from HP's site. The problem is that I have recently gone 64-bit, to find that EZInstall only works with 32-bit OSs.

Is there a way I can make this printer which is supposed to work, actually work? I have also looked at Windows Update Catalog, where all the 1015 drivers have pre-W7 release dates. I have seen threads on this forum on how an HP1012 can work with a 1015 driver, so I cannot understand why a 1015 will not work with its own driver.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Hi richc46

Yes, and its available from HP's site - lj1010serieshb-vista64.zip. However, forum members who have tried this driver have reported back that it takes 10 seconds to print one page and about 3 minutes to print 10 pages. There has also been one report that this driver uses an unnecessarily large amount of toner ink, and this makes it uneconomical.

For these two reasons, I have not tried this driver.

Hello sjc312. I found a thread that may help you. See khaakon's highlighted answer for installation, then scroll down to Holodoc B's response for the slow printer fix.
