Windows 7 not detecting any of my USB devices

I installled a memory stick and a memory card reader. these are both plug and play devices that dont require software. i use them on all my other windows OS's and ubuntu and they detect right away. it is only windows 7 that wont detect. when i plug the device in it says "installing device driver....then it says windows device driver was not successfully installed. i went to device manager and checked the usb ports and it shows the memory stick that\i put in with a yellow sign with an exclamation point icon. why wont anything install on my USB? why is cant windows detect a common thing like a memory stick and card reader? I also have the latest windows 7 updates and that didnt work either. please help! thanks

I wish i knew a way to solve this myself.
I have 3 different brand card readers & none work on 7. I have a dual boot 7 & XP set-up at the moment & if i reboot from 7 to XP it/they work fine!

The usb port always connects to devices but the card reader side of it does nothing.

I posted this article for another poster having a similar issue. He never reported back so I don't know if it worked or not.

Windows Vista Cannot Auto Find Driver for New USB Device Plugged In Tip and Trick

What pertains to Windows Vista usually applies to Windows 7 as well.

This is the files location in Windows 7.

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore

Delete the "INFCACHE.1" file. (You may need full administrative privelages)

Please let me know if this solves your problem.
