I can only get a firmware update but not the drivers for the drive

please help me out, i have also tried microsofts fixit but it didnt help either it says no device found.
Try putting pin on back of unit to 'cable select'. If not auto-found by 7, try different pins like 'master'

Make sure ATA lead is pushed right in on M/board + Unit and make sure lead is plugged in correct way round at both ends!

Try a different ata lead.

Make sure your bios setting is still detecting the unit correctly!

I guess its the problem with the jumper coz i dont remember seen one on it.
No problem with the ATA connectors!!!
no, its not a SATA drive!!!!
May be something to do with the board settings.. I recently moved to gigabite from an intel DG31PR

Have a quick look here,

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

and see if there is a folder there that looks like this,

cdrom.inf_x86_neutral_db87d184bc84f910

if your Windows is 32 bit (you didn't specify 32 bit or 64 bit), and this is 64 bit,

cdrom.inf_amd64_neutral_59f400d7b01e0427

If it isn't there then it is really gone (System Restore would have fixed it in a few minutes). You can try adding that folder back using this one if 32 bit,

cdrom.inf_x86_neutral_db87d184bc84f910.zip

if it is 32 bit, and then see if it will install. If it is 64 bit, unfortunately you'll have to wait for someone without the SP! beta installed (unless you are running the beta), as the files have been updated.

I have found a restore point, im goin to restore it now, lets see how it fares....

I'm wondering if you can run the sfc /SCANNOW command to replace those built-in drivers. You won't find separate optical drive drivers because they don't exist. If you are certain it isn't a cabling problem, you might want to run a repair or the command I mentioned above.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Do you have access to an SATA burner to try?

Seeing as that folder is still there in the driver repository, try doing a manual driver install from Device Manager,

Driver Install - Device Manager

and when you get to step 4, point it to the folder in the driver repository.
