Realtek AC 97 Driver :)

Hello,

I doubt this is a first thread about Realtek AC 97 driver problem when trying to apply it to Windows 7.
A day ago i've installed windows 7 and everything works really fine, expect sound ofcourse. Firstly i used windows updates to download right drivers (never trusted me self too much) and it did download realtek ac 97 thingies, BUT after installation it didn't work - no sound anyway.
So i started to surf in all mighty google and i found many posts in many different forums about people who can't make their computers with Windows 7 atleast to beep.
Well i don't really know what to do, my hand are bound, but i hope that i will find the right answer here.
Some things about my computer (please don't laugh to death):
OS-windows 7 home premium
1gb of ram
Nvidia geforce fx 5500 <--- ancient thing indeed
32 bit OS
and processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz

Oh and about sound card... well i checked some papper on my computer and it was said that sound card is integrated (sorry no idea what it is)

Well, waiting for offers what to do and sorry if i did any mistakes

p.s. I'm absolutely sure that i need simple realtek AC 97 codec or something like that, but not HD for sure. Anyway windows 7 doesn't support latest codecs from realtek.com

And about sound card which is integrated - i'm sure it's fine because tested it on windows xp two hours ago... (had to reinstall windows >.< )

Jultas, welcome to the forums.

If it is the Realtek AC'97 that you need you an get it directly from Realtek,

Realtek

Might be a good idea to grab something like this,

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

and double check the motherboard specs to see if that is the one you need.

Just click "install anyway". it won't hurt anything. Just means it wasn't submitted for WHQL testing on Windows 7 (or there isn't an actual Windows 7 driver for it, only the Vista one which will work on 7 anyway), if the same driver was installed on Vista that warning wouldn't come up.

I clicked and after installation was completed computer rebooted, but even after reboot there was no sound and still it remains written "No Audio Output Device is installed" any other ideas what i can do to bring back sound into my computer?

Did you double check the specs on your motherboard and conform that is the correct driver? Realtek drivers are funny that way, they will install even if a Realtek device isn't present.

That is just the chipset which unfortunately doesn't help much. If you could, please post a screen shot of Speccy (linked above) of the summary page, that will show (or should) the make and model of the motherboard.

Windows XP has sound with no problems, seems windows 7 doesn't detect my integrated sound card.

You know, i start to think that these windows are not worth money i've payed for it.

Unfortunately all that shows is which chipset is on the motherboard, not who made it and the i865/PE was used by most of the motherboard manufacturers back then. One thing you can try is to run this,

Ā INF Update Utility - Primarily for IntelĀ® 5, 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets

It may or may not help (won't hurt), and if it works then the sound card should be detected. the problem with that chipset is that it is EOL (end of life) and as such support for it has been dropped.
