    Replace corrupted gadgets in sidebar

    G'day All,

Problem: Corrupted Gagets. When I drag ie the clock gaget to the desk top is appears a black square with thin red line. The other gagets to not appear.

Sofar I ran sfc /scannow. The text file on the desktop showed no file(s) need further repair.

These gagets are not necessary, but it would be nice to be able to use them.

Is there any way to repace them, by removing and reinstalling a file/folder.

At this stage I don't really want to run Windows repair.

I got the above info on the scan from the forum...Thanks for that,

I tried and no success. Cleared all the gadgets and then downloaded one from MSoft. It still appeared distorted and very dark. If there was a way to remove the sidebar or a file and reinstall it, that may work. I feel it is the program and not the individual gadget that is at fault. Thanks again for trying to help.

Have you had this problem from day 1?

If not, when did it appear?

Well, (old age syndrome) let me remember, a couple of days ago I uninstalled the Beta SP1, and it may have been soon after that, I do remember restarting the computer (not sure if it was a cold boot or just a restart). Anyway I noticed that the three gadgets I normally had on the desktop did not appear. I tried to drag the clock and then I saw just a black square etc.

I have not changed the screen resolution. All other displays or programs are OK. As I say, they are fine to have but not neccesary. BTW it is Tuesday here and tomorrow your mid term elections????? I wonder what result. So again thanks mate, from Down Under.

    OK.

A crucial piece of info you gave us:
    I uninstalled the SP1 beta.

My experience, sad but true, is that MS has never gotten it right on installing and removing sevice packs, beta, relecase candidates.

Did you perhaps make a full image backup of your computer before intalling the beta?

My suggestion at this point is to backup all data dear to your heart, because any attempts to fix the problem may just make bad matters worse.

After doing that and trying sfc /scannow, trying a repair install, trying installiing over your present persion, I don't know what to suggest because you have lost all of your old restore points in the process of installing the beta and removing the beta.

Thank you Karlsnooks, as the saying goes, no fool like an old fool!! I don't want to stop aging but I might be able to stop rashness in future. I did the sfc /scannow and had had a close look at the text file on the desktop. All repaired and nothing needed attention. No I did not use a program to backup, but I really don't need the gadgets. Just nice to know everything is intact, like your car, you may not need the rear demister, but nice to know it is there. I really don't think a repair or reinstallation at this point is called for. Bye y'all (I spent one day in Houston, Texas)...

Here's a tutorial on backing up.

If you having any questions after reading the tutorial. let me know as I use Win 7 Backup and Restore quite frequently due to testing of various programs and features.
