32-bit Sidebar.exe shows no gadgets; 64-bit fine

Hello!

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit; I'm having some trouble with my gadgets. I need to run the 32-bit version of the Sidebar for Flash to work. For the past few days, however, launching the 32-bit Sidebar leaves me with no gadgets (even though the \Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets folder has all the standard gadgets in it). However, the 64-bit version of the Sidebar displays all the gadgets perfectly.

I have attempted SFC /scannow, lots of Regsvr32 "stuff", uninstalling and reinstalling the Sidebar, turning off/on UAC (it's normally at the second to last position), deleting the "settings.ini" in the Gadgets' folder, nada.

Any ideas what happened and what to do to fix it?

He/she posted that thread on the Microsoft Forums too.

Try a System Restore that's how he/she fixed it.

Ok thank you. But my problem is that my last system restore date is after the problem with the gadgets occurred. Is this a problem, or will a system restore to any date fix the problem?

Many thanks

Welcome to Seven Forums Rower1978. A system restore point after the gadgets stopped displaying will not help.

Have you run the System File Checker?

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Just a thought. Open regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Make sure there is a listing for

C:\program files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe /autorun

If the entry is not there you can create a new one and see if that helps.

If no help, then a repair install should fix this, although you'll have to enable the 32 bit sidebar again.

Repair Install
