    Windows 7, weather gadget problem

So, yet another problem with the weather gadget. I couldn't find a solution to this particular problem, but I am hoping someone can help me.

So I've had two weather gadgets open for two different location. At some point they both stopped working. Now all they're showing is a two months old forecast. If I change the location, everything works just fine, the problem occurs only with these two locations. We had the same problem with our old computer, only then it was with one location only.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi and welcome to the forum dallass.
Is this with the weather gadget that comes with Windows 7? If the gadget is working fine when you change the location then the data for the locations that are old is no longer being updated or something like a firewall is block access. What is the location, I'll try in on one of my machines ?

Yes, the gadget that comes with Windoes. It's Turku, Finland, and Tampere, Finland. I'm sure they are still updated since both locations work fine on other computers. With both, the new and the old computer, the gadget just stopped working, and it's not updating the forecast.

Currently 1C just above freezing. Seems to be updated and working OK. I suspect a corrupt gadget, try this:
How do I uninstall a gadget?

    1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Gadgets.
    2. Right-click a gadget, and then click Uninstall.
    3. If you uninstalled gadgets that came with Windows, you can restore them to the Desktop Gadget Gallery:
      • Click Start, and then click Control Panel. In the search box, type Restore Gadgets, and then click Restore desktop gadgets installed with Windows.

    4. Check your firewall is not blocking Gadgets.

    No Advice Works

It was last night, that I noticed my weather sidebar gadget was not working.
I visited this, and other threads, but none of the advice posted solved my problem.

Since this is not a major concern, my only concern was about a virus
possibly being the cause. In addition, I had problems in the past with other Windows features
    suddenly not working.

I reinstalled the operating system, for this and other reasons,
but still, the weather sidebar gadget could not connect to the Internet.
Obviously, this must be a service, connection or adjustment problem.

I have decided that this particular feature is not worth my time
trying to fix. In addition, given the link provided by Layback Bear,
I decided not to use the sidebar any longer.

I only posted my comments for informational purposes,
knowing this thread is at least six months old. Thanks to
all of you, for your information.

    Good luck!

    Weather and Currency Apps

I too was having problems with the weather gadget. It just stopped working one day. After research and attempted fixes, I have also given up. Perhaps, Microsoft cut off the servers for these Win 7 apps and have moved focus to Win 8.

I tried deleting the app and then re-install using "Restore Desktop Gadgets Installed with Windows." I've also tried going into the Local user settings and deleting the sidebar cache. Lastly, I uninstalled all sidebar gadgets, rebooted, and then re-installed the gadgets. All were no-go's Running a System File Checker (sfc / scannow) right now just to double check.

I've been using Vista Home Premium 32bit for a number of years. Last weekend I decided to try out Win7 as there are annoying features in Vista. I ran Vista in the morning all gadgets ok. I installed Win7 then sorted out my web connection and an hour later the weather gadget shows "Service not available."

I now know M$ have disabled this option because of security reasons but why they should they disable the weather gadget made by M$ if they should have provided an updated gadget? Also the currency gadget is disabled not that I use that one.

I found no useful solutions on Google all they said was check the region settings which are English (United Kingdom). I typed in London and New York but the service was still unavailable. But I did find Weather Vista Gadget 1.1.0.6 I downloaded it and scanned for virus and malware all clear, I added it to the Windows Sidebar folder opened the gadgets and added the new weather. The old weather is there with the same picture so I unistalled that one. The new one works exactly the same as the old one.

This works on Vista and Win7. That must have been bad timing for it to disappear from one OS to another.

I am still using the Weather gadget on Windows 7. Here is a screenshot from just now:
I also have the wallpaper gadget working fine too. Are you positive that the firewall is not blocking the gadgets by default. Perhaps you have to run the Microsoft FIX IT to turn the Gadgets back on as I think a security update rolled out last year disabled them by default http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662

Yes it is raining today, still at least it is not 6 inches of snow like last week. :)
Oh and how I wish I could be wherever that is in that picture
