Go to Windows features and tried turning off the Gadget platform rebooting your computer go back in and turn the gadget platform back on and reboot your computer again and see what happens.

Have you tried to do a System Restore to a point before you install Bitdefender?

Do Option 2 of this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have.

If the above does not work try a Repair Install

Their is a good chance that BitDefender turned off many Gadgets for security reasons.

Removing McAfee is what causes this, but I have as yet been unable to determine what the ultimate fix is. Try creating a new user, and see if the problem exists there. Chances are it will not, and the best thing may be to transfer to the new user account.

Hey there, just signed up to say that I myself removed mcafee internet security from my system and my gadgets went the way of the dodo too. I am just using windows firewall at the moment and am suffering the same exact issues as moe89. I am going to try the SFC/SCANNOW soon. I was just wondering how or what the program name that gadgets use to get past the firewall normally, or if it is a type of connection that I need to allow? any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. I am using Windows 7 pro x64.

On a side note, I DL'd an additional gadget from weather underground it worked until I rebooted. That is why I am asking as to the type of connection or underlying program name to look for within the firewall rules.
