Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working

I have browsed through several similar problems on this forums but the solutions provided do not work for my problem.

    Some information:
    • My UAC is enabled.
    • sidebar.exe crashes with the message "Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" everytime I run it. It doesn't appear in the process list after it crashes.
    • All gadgets are the default ones. I did not install any new gadgets.
    • The gadgets that I have enabled are the calender, clock, weather, and system performance gadgets.
    • My side bar has been working for about 1 month ever since I installed Windows 7 build 7600.
    • I have noticed that the sidebar started to crash after I installed Free Music Zilla, Audacity and SUPER Video converter. I did a system restore after I noticed that the sidebar crashed. It did not work, therefore I undid the system restore. Then, I uninstalled those programs but the sidebar is still crashing.

    Please help.

You could try opening a cmd prompt with admin privileges, and run

    sfc /scannow

This might repair a file corrupted by one of the crapplications.

Hmm try getting rid of all the gadgets and see if you can run sidebar.exe without any sidebar gadgets actually on the screen, if so then add one at a time to see which crashes.

I can't access the gadgets management screen, when I rightclicked my desktop and click on Gadgets, the sidebar runs, and then it crashes a few seconds later.

    Problem solved.

The default weather gadget that came with windows 7 was the culprit.

I could not disable it because the sidebar keeps on crashing whenever i tried to open the gadget list. I had to set permissions for the weather gadget folder in program files in order to forcefully delete it.
