Cannot turn off desktop grid snapping on 2nd monitor

I want to turn off grid snapping for my gadgets on my 2nd monitor. If I right click select 'View' and turn off 'Align Icons to grid'. it turns the grid off on my main monitor but not the secondary. Any ideas?

*Edit Just discovered there seems to be an invisible 'sidebar' area on the edges of both screens where snapping cannot be disabled. Very frustrating
