Just tonight, when I start Windows 7, as soon as the gadgets start to load, I get a popup containing the following:
dnserrordiagoff_webOC, referencing ieframe.dll
I Googled this and it said that this was related to a gadget that was no longer working. Advice was to disable all the gadgets and re-enable them one at a time to determine which one is failing.
Problem is, gadgets don't work in safe mode, and right-clicking on Gadgets on the desktop doesn't do anything anymore. Clicking Gadgets from Control Panel does not work either.
I don't want to disable ALL the gadgets, just the one that is causing problems.
I even went into the folder in Program Files and tried to delete the gadget folders, but can't get appropriate permissions to do that.
Update1: This is not good! Same thing happened on my laptop running much the same gadgets, but now, it won't boot into Windows anymore. SFC /scannow reports no failures, but attempted Repair claims there is no operating system on the drive. Booted into Linux LiveCD, opened the filesystem, files are all still there!
Can someone help?
Update2: Since no one know how to fix this (evidently), and I REALLY need the use of the machine back, I've gone ahead and restored the image from backup. Didn't really "fix" anything -- but the problem has not returned and I have a working machine again.
My BIG concern over this is that there was apparently a problem with the Weather gadget (deduced this because (1) this was the only gadget that was on both machines, and (2) this was the gadget that did not load to the desktop) that then DISABLES the use of the Control Panel gadgets routine, this is a SERIOUS problem -- one I would think would have some fix, but Googling extensively on this found nothing other than a way to disable ALL gadgets.
