Game problems with games running in squares

Ok. A few of my games always run in squares even though i have a widescreen laptop. It is a new Hp with 1366x768 resolution. When I run Starcraft it runs in a box with black lines on the two sides. Also when I run Spore it does the same thing. I don't know how to fix it and make it run full screen.

Do your games have video settings you can change? The Sims 2 is the same way unless you change the video settings to a widescreen resolution.

I have changed the settings in Spore but it still plays in a box for some reason and starcraft doesn't have any video settings.

Those games were designed to be played on a 4:3 aspect ratio screen, so they might not have that capability. I'm afraid that I can't think of a way to stretch the picture, so its one of those annoyances we have to deal with in life. Sorry I couldn't help you fix the problem.

That's ok. Thank you for your advice. At least I know that there is no way to change it.
