    Sniper Elite

    Hi all.

Not an important one, just curious.
Digging through old stuff on the shelves, I came across Sniper Elite.

Stuck it in, loaded OK. Required restart as I had forgotten it had Star Force copy protection !
PC failed to restart, with the boot sequence repeatedly attempting to repair but failing.
Managed to get it running again using the last known good configuration, and un-installed the game and Star Force drivers.

Out of interest a couple of days later I thought I would load it in the virtual XP to see if it would run from there.
Star Force still reported a non supported operating system ???

Just curious really, anybody managed to get the Star Force copy protection in this game to work with W7, and what was happening with the virtual XP mode ??

Well I am thinking this game is like Silent hunter 3 and the only way to fix it was to find the no-cd/dvd patch

I am thinking this is ok to say, as even ubisoft allowed that to be posted on their site for Silent Hunter 3 as not all releases had the starforce drivers

    Starforce has a removal tool
    Code:
    http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55
Uninstall your Sniper elite, run the Starforce removal tool.
Find the no-cd patch, you will have to google it
Install Sniper elite, remove disc from tray and patch it.

Thanks, that was what I was starting to think, but thought I would look for a "better" way first .

Yeah I think that is the only way, but I could be wrong. I don't have that game , but I do have Silent Hunter 3 and it worked for it.

Unfortunately, this game like others with older versions of StarForce such as Splinter Cell Chaos Theory only work through this method. Kind of sad that you have to resort to such a trick to get a legitimate copy to work.
