Bully: Scholarship Edition. Windows 7. "DirectX 9 Installation failed"

    Someone, help me, please. :|
I'm using the Inspiron one 19T. The touch screen computer, or whatever this is. I've checked and everything seems to be fine. I've DirectX 11 here.
But whenever I try to install Bully, right after all the agreements and what-not, a pop-up comes and tells me that "DirectX 9 Installation failed".

WHAT THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?

    Update your Direct x files.....

Try this first.... This checks the files already installed and installs what's neccessary - Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime

This is the entire package downloaded your computer, then you extract and install - Download details: DirectX Redist (June 2010)

    Good luck.

BTW - read steps 5 & 6 here - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues to get a better understanding of Direct X (11)

I've done all that. :/ HAHA, it's useless, I did it loads of times, and nothing happened, it still showed the same message.
tho, I'm not that clear on what to do.
I downloaded those ^ and it said that there weren't any necessary thing and blah blah blah, everything was up to date.
Then I downloaded another thing that had loads of files in it, which I had to extract or something? I dunno what to do with that. :/

What program/game is that your trying to get to work? And how old is it???

It may be a program that won't run under Windows 7

BTW I can't help you with "blah blah blah" and "another thing that had loads of files in it"

If you're going to ask for help, you need to be specific on what it is you're doing and what specific programs you're using. We're not at your computer, so blah blah blah means nothing.

Have a look at this.... How To Ask For Help

    Thanks.

    The game,

    Bully: Scholarship Edition on Steam

    the system requirements,

      • OS: Windows XP / Windows Vista
      • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 (3+ GHZ) / AMD Athlon 3000+
      • Memory: 1 GB RAM
      • Graphics: DirectX 9.0c Shader 3.0 supported, Nvidia 6800 or 7300 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better
      • DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c
      • Hard Drive: 4.7 GB free space
      • Sound Card: DX9-compatible
      • Input: Keyboard, Mouse, Xbox 360 Controller supported

Specs on the computer can be found here,

Dell Inspiron One 19 Desktop | Dell India

video consists of the Intel GMA x4500, which while theoretically meets the requirements for that game is possibly why things won't install. To give an idea how good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) it performs,

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M - Notebookcheck

I downloaded another thing that had loads of files in it, which I had to extract or something? I dunno what to do with that.
If that was the redistributable that sygnus21 linked above, look for the DXSETUP.exe and run it.

Also make sure you have the video drivers installed and updated, with whatever is the latest for it from Dell or even try the latest reference driver directly from Intel.

    theoretically
It's no longer theoretical. It's been proven many times lol. I have x4500. It's playable at low settings, with very little lag, which is why this game is staying in my games folder (I hate lags in sandbox games). Medium would still run but lags a lot.

I haven't encountered this problem before. If the installation of the game did well, they you just need to update DirectX via download from MS's site. You should be able to play the game just fine, as long as you meet the requirements. If the whole installation process reversed because of this error, try updating DirectX then start the installation again.

Its a very silly error. The directX9 installation files are not complete. If you will go to your bully install folder, you will find a folder named "dx9" (or something related to directx9, in mine it was dx9 so I will explain using that, you make the necessary changes) there. Now this folder has a lot of files that are required to install directx9 on your PC. You obviously have a higher wersion of directx on your PC as you say, so you don't really need to install it, but the bully setup is so built that it will try to execute the directx setup before it begins installation. Evrytime it does this, it fails as the files are not complete and setup fails. The solution to this is as follows:

    1. Download the "complete" directx9 package from here Download DirectX 9.0c (Jun 10) - FileHippo.com OR just google directx9 and download from whatever site you like. Make sure it is directx9 that you download and not 10.
    2. Name this folder "Directx9" without the quotes, and paste into the bully install folder.
    3. Now cut the dx9 folder and paste it somewhere safe (just in case)
    4. Rename the "Directx9" folder in the bully installation folder to "dx9"
    5. Now run the setup.exe
    6. Keep pressing "next" or "proceed" or whatever and after a certain point, you will get a "command line error". Just press OK, setup will continue and bully will be installed.
    7. If this was successful, just delete the dx9 folder you saved in the safe place or else replace it and try a different strategy.

    Hope that helped.
