    problems with games

    Hello :)

I have problems while playing games (like "Portal") : the sound is disturbed/lagging (like kkhh kkhh) and the fps is going down (visually and not too much). In Counter Strike Source : I have the same symptoms but the game indicates high FPS ??!!!??? and the ping is low and stable but there is micro-lags, I mean visually there are lags.

When I'm watching satellite channels via my DVB-S application (I have two) both image and sound are disturbed/laggy ! I think there is a link between those two problems because when my game isn't "laggy" I dont have problems with my DVB application and vice versa

But when I restart my computer I dont have those problems, it's a strange problem !!!! very strange each time I got this problem, I restart my computer and evertything is ok ! that's the only solution I found until now ! but it's fkin irritating

while searching in the internet, I found some topics talking about changing this registry key :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\NetworkThrottlingIndex
    to the value 0xFFFFFFFF

but it doesnt solve my problem what's the solution please ?

    Thanks in advance !

Lagging can be network, or machine. Try this app (free) to test for network lagging.. DPC Latency Checker

No it's "technically" not a "networK" game, however IT IS a Steam game, and Steam IS subject to network problems!!!

    PC System Requirements
    • Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX® 8.1 level Graphics Card (Requires support for SSE), Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
    Portal on Steam

However you may have other problems. You should check out my guide for Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues, particulary item# 11 for starters.

    Good luck.

I do not have problems with my Internet connexion,...

Look, my hardware is good but I have a crappy OS => Windows 7 Home BASIC (microsoft racism ) I think that there is a key in the windows registry which creates those problems,...

When I notice a problem with a game/DVB application, I restart my computer and then I dont have those problems !!!!

there is no problem with the hardware or the connexion, the source of problem is the OPERATING SYSTEM so if someone knows which key I must modify to correct this problem please tell me what one it is !

I'M SURE that the problem come from the Multimedia Class Scheduler Service (Multimedia Class Scheduler Service (Windows))

Not to come off as sounding rude, but if it were the OS that caused all of these problems, then logic would suggest everyone with Windows 7 would have the exact same issue.

I have no issue with Portal or any other Steam Game. Mine run fine.

It is quite likely the problem is something minor, or something you simply overlooked.
Make sure your Direct-X is up-to-date, for example.

Run through the trouble shooting guide Sygnus linked.

Could also be due to the GPU itself.

This guys system specs make no sense to me:
    System Manufacturer/Model NumberAcer M5800OSWindows 7 Home Basic 32bitCPUIntel Core 2 Quand CPU Q8300 @ 2.50 GHzMotherboardAcerMemory4 GB DDR3Graphics Card(s)NVIDIA GeForce GT320 1024MB
WTF is a 32 bit version of Windows doing with 4 gigs installed if it can only use
    2 gigs and small change....
To the OP are you sure those are the correct system specs?

By the way that Video card is a extremely minimal card. It was and is not considered worthy of much gaming other than say Solitare or simple games like that. It is the sort of card/chipset one usually sees in some laptop/notebook systems.

Do not expect much from it. Pay attention closely to Minimum specs on game packages as your system is going to below min for most.

Did you try playing the game at a much lower screen resolution? That might help.

I have Windows 7 HOME BASIC it means I dont have aero/shake/peek, Windows Media Center , and other cool features ! Acer = sh*t

I have no issue with Portal or any other Steam Game. Mine run fine.
yea, they run fine too with me ! please re-read my problem to better understand when I have a problem, I stop playing, I restart the computer, and then I can play without problems and with GOOD PERFORMANCE

Make sure your Direct-X is up-to-date, for example.
when I attempt to update it, it says that I have the latest version so,...

Run through the trouble shooting guide Sygnus linked.
Well, I do have a NON-Steam version of those game (Portal/CSS) and even all my games are cracked, because we dont have Steam here, it isn't illegal in my country ! Steam (and BTW many software companies) are not interested to sell their products in the country where I live
the games works fine in my other computers equiped with Windows 7 Home Premium / XP / Vista so there is no problem with them :)

To the OP are you sure those are the correct system specs?
No doubt lol Do you think I'm a noob ? I'm not a noob ok ! it is Acer problem, not mine.

WTF is a 32 bit version of Windows doing with 4 gigs installed if it can only use
    2 gigs and small change....
HOME BASIC uses 3GB not 2GB :) dont forget that in the future I can change the OS and choose a 64-bit one ! but I will not do it because when we speaks about OS, I need to get a legit one and here it's impossible (without the Warez, people here wouldn't work with great softwares and it's LEGAL)

By the way that Video card is a extremely minimal card. It was and is not considered worthy of much gaming other than say Solitare or simple games like that. It is the sort of card/chipset one usually sees in some laptop/notebook systems.
you are wrong,... it's not an IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor), it's a powerful GPU (PCI Express x16 card + fan) for the medium gamer like me, I told you when I restart my computer, I can play whatever I want and with high settings (in textures) and at 1600x900 !!!! omg it aint easy to convince you, it's occasional

Do not expect much from it. Pay attention closely to Minimum specs on game packages as your system is going to below min for most.
I know, reread the problem u ll see that I have another problem : I have some kind of lags in both image & sound in my dvb-s application and in the same time games do have troubles, BUT when I restart EVERYTHING IS OK !

Did you try playing the game at a much lower screen resolution? That might help.
Yes, same problems ! my hardware is very good ! but the problem come from the OS because when I restart my computer I can work WITHOUT problems

mmm sorry if my english is kinda strange, I'm a french man who live in a developing country, called Tunisia, Acer is exporting strange PCs to this country they do have a good specs for a 32bit version, However, they do not come with an Operating System or in my case, with a the worst version of Windows (BASIC),... I dont have problems with the other PC brands or my mounted PCs

BUT in the USA, many Acer's PC are delivered with a 64-bit OS because it's a rich country,... for the developping countries, Acer use a politic of discrimination

I hope that you will understand my problem, for the moment, when I notice the problem, I restart and everything is fine, so I am sure that there is a solution for this "occasionnal" problem

Look : if there is no solution, I'm obliged to restore the system with the restauration tool (I need to burn 3 DVDs) but I'm afraid that if I ll do this I ll lose the data in my hard drives, I said that because I had a bad experience with Toshiba, the restautation software (burned in dvds) deleted all my data in the other partition (DATA partition)

    Cheers.

It could be Intel SpeedStep kicking in if you have a Core 2 Quad.
I don't know how to turn that off, I don't run an Intel, but I think you can do it in the BIOS, try turning that off and see if it lags still.
