Government's legeslative effort to restrict video game sales.,,

Technolog - Are video games the 'devil's flute'?

    Discuss..

My opinion: I've started playing violent video games when I was 8. I know a lot of children my age who play the same game (Counter-strike nostalgia). I know a hundred people who play these games (no kidding; I can name all 100 of them), and none of them turned violent because of video games. If they did, it was for different reasons such as neglect, or bad parenting (I've heard a lot of cases of these to be honest).

In a lot of ways, the violence within video games does desensitize people towards violence. I'm not saying that video games turn people into bad people, but I do believe that a lot of the violence and bad behavior isn't exactly the healthiest of lifestyles.

Just because you don't go out with a gun on a rampage, doesn't mean the games haven't had an effect on you. I think the issues are far less subtle. for example, I grew up playing games and I don't think much about them...but on a side note......I seem to be less sensitive about my kids watching me play (they are 5 and 3). Shielding and protecting them from this type of violence at their age should be something that I am doing...but I'm a bit de-sensitized and I don't see it as being an issue. I can watch gory movies, I can look at gory pictures on the web and I want to see the raw details sometimes...and some of this fascination I'm sure is from a desensitization towards this type of stuff.

It's always something fun to think about.
