My problem is, that the installation, what goes down seemingly all right, does not create anything in the /My Documents, like the other games. Most people talk about what to do to fix the "running the game" problem once you located the files in /My Documents. But I don't have anything there related to C&C Generals! Do you have any idea why is that happening?
Having admin privileges is not my priority issue right now. That will come later, I'm sure.

    secdrv.sys

Looks like I found a solution to my problem:

Under the "Known issues in this security update"

Give it a try, worked for me!

    Just got mine working.

When naming the file "options.ini". Don't forget to enable extensions for known file types (folder and search options - view - untick hide extensions for known file types).

Otherwise the file will actually be "options.ini.txt". took me a while to work out where I was going wrong

    Guys, can you clarify,
WHAT IS THE EXACT PATH FOR SAVING IT? Please?

    The OP makes no sense:
save it in the c&c data map
Are you still talking about the Documents > c&c generals data? Or are you talking about the main installation folder? If you're talking about the Documents subdirectory, there is no "map" folder. There's this directory:
    "C:\Users\[..]\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\Maps"
Is that where we're supposed to save it?

So far I've placed this options.ini file with the indicated lines into the folders:
    "C:\Users\[..]\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\Maps"
    and
    the main game directory

Still doesn't work. When I try to launch the game nothing happens at all. It doesn't even open and then crash. It just seems to do nothing.

I do have it set to compatibility mode for WinXP SP 3. And running it as administrator.

    Am I still missing anything?

I have CC Generals installed and when I'm on my desktop I'll have a look. I don't even recall having to create an ini file to get it running, but maybe I did. The one issue I'm now having myself is that when I create a building with a dozer all buildings immediately blow up and I immediately lose. This was never the case before.

Okay, I checked what I have and the options.ini files are in both the following directories.

C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data

    C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data

It's not placed in the maps folder. Just the main profile folder for the game. And I don't see the options.ini file in the installation path either.

    Thank you for verifying that.

Okay, it still does nothing when I try to launch the game. No error message, no crash. Just nothing happens at all when I try to launch it. What else should I check?

Is your compatibility set like this?

    EDIT:

Ohh, I got it! Ok it has to do with what marrs101 said. The link in marrs101's post isn't very clear. This is a good overview of the issue:
How to Play PC Games That Require SafeDisc or SecuROM DRM on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, and Vista

However, while the description of the root of the problem in that How-To Geek article may be illuminating, the given solution doesn't actually work. Simply typing “sc start secdrv” into command prompt doesn't work. You get error 1058. You need another command first.

The actual command sequence required is:
    Code:
    sc config secdrv start= demand
    sc start secdrv
See below. Then, after you're done playing you can turn it back off:
    Code:
    sc stop secdrv

Glad you found the solution. Now I just need to figure out why building a building with a dozer causes the buildings to explode.

That's a crazy bug! I finally just played it for the first time after getting it to work, and everything is normal. No exploding buildings...

Is your game patched to the latest version?
