Discuss Fallout: New Vegas Hello folks,
This thread is all Fallout: New Vegas. Tech/Issues, thoughts, gameplay. Please have the courtesy of not posting anything that could be spoiler material.
Thanks.
With that said, here's some of my observations thus far.... the game has issues with saves... see this post - What Games Are You Playing?
Supposedly fixed.... Game Updates - Bethesda Softworks Forums. However.... Quick Save and Auto Save do not change once game has been closed. - Bethesda Softworks Forums
The game microstutters (yes I have it, on a single ATI card).... Bethesda's fourms - Microstuttering. - Bethesda Softworks Forums
Slowdowns reported.... What Games Are You Playing?. You can also find reports of this here... Bethesda Softworks Forums -> Fallout: New Vegas PC Issues
Issues with multi GPU's.... No multi GPU support? - Bethesda Softworks Forums
Today I suffered my first crash while walking around in the town of Prima. The game suddenly closed on me and gave me a black screen
Too me the game feels like a giant expansion of Fallout 3. The game certainly looks, feels, and plays the same way.
Outside of that I think the game looks rather nice, and I absolutely love the music.
That's it, for now.

Man this effing save system is completely broken in this game!!!
So I decide to save Ringo, defeat his enemies, save game. Move on to Primm, kill a couple of baddies, save. The game crashes shortly after, I restart the game, click continue and the game takes me back to before I even talked to Ringo. WTF!!!
Ok, just choose the saved level I saved from Primm. Er...WRONG! There is no saved game! WHAT???
So yeah, the save/continue system is still broken, even after the supposed patch. Yippieee, now I get to start my save Ringo level all over again.... nothing like practice though right Update.... Here's a fix for those "missing" save files.... Quote: Go to C:\Users\"User Name"\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves
Here you will see your auto/quick saves and any hard saves. Now if your one of the lucky ones, you should see 2 auto-saves and 2 quick-saves. And THATS RIGHT! One of these is all your hard work. The ones ending in .bak are your correct ones. Simply rename it and delete the .bak. Feel free to delete the other 2 ones that have so frustratingly overwritten your hours of play, giving you a mini-heart attack. After deleting the .bak, you should discover your correct auto/quick saves in the load screen, safely able to continue playing from your original position. Source: ATTENTION! SAVES ARENT MISSING! - Bethesda Softworks Forums
I'm happy to report my saved game from Primm has been recovered using this method. Meaning no playing levels over again. Phew!

Hopefully that gets patched soon.
I got tired of the whole renaming thing So went to the Steam user folder ..
rather than delete the cloud saves to get the save working temporarily, 9always starts messing up again)
I revoked all read/write permissions on the remote folder for FONV. (read this on official forums as well)
So far so good. Steam doesnt have permission to use CLOUD, so it must use the ones in the Documents folder. No more overwrites and saves are working fine now.
Beyond critters getting stuck in the ground occasionally, and a the massive FPS loss when a few NPC are around ... I havent had to many major issues.
Just now, had the 1st frezze up though. Was reloading a level, after a death and it just froze.
Then STEAM patched the game.
I do agree with most of your observations on the game so far.
But, I also really like it.
Playing HC + Normal difficulty

Touch wood I haven't had any crashes yet. It's bound to happen sooner or later though - lucky I'm a prolific manual saver
I was running with FRAPs today and the majority of the time I'm getting a pretty consistent 60FPS - but rarely does it feel like a 'smooth' 60. Damn micro stutter. Although compared to playing through FO3 with a 4850 single/CF and a 4890 CF setup - it is much less pronounced with my 5970.
Some areas of the game world are less optimised than others though - I hit Camp Golf and it dropped to single digits. In some areas, multiple NPC's has zero framerate hit, but in others it's quite noticeable.
I tried forcing AA through CCC and it does indeed improve the frame rate - but unfortunately at the cost of IQ. It completely borks the grass...
Bugs and whatnot aside, it's still quite enjoyable | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Computers by SmartEyeball OS 8 Pro x64 CPU i7 3770K 4.6GHz Motherboard ASUS P8Z77 WS Memory 16GB G.Skill Trident X 2400mhz Graphics Card 3x Gigabyte GTX 670 OC WindForce *TRI SLI* Sound Card ALC898 / 5.1 receiver/ ATH-AD900 Headphones Monitor(s) Displays x3 Dell U2410 / 58" Samsung / "40 Sony Screen Resolution 5760*1200/ 1920*1200 / 1920*1080 Keyboard Topre Realforce // Ducky Shine MX Black // Filco Ninja TKL Mouse Razer Imperator + Thermaltake Theron PSU Corsair AX1200W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Noctua NH-D14 Hard Drives 2x Intel 520 240GB (RAID 0) * 2x WD Caviar Blacks 2TB (RAID 0) * 2TB WD Caviar Black Antivirus MSE Browser IE, FF Other Info GT Extreme V2 Sim Racing Cockpit + 40" LCD and K/B Mouse stand ▼

Yeah, I'm thinking both ATI & Nvidia may provide driver updates for the game, though It may not help as the issues seem to be "game" related. We'll see.
Anyways the broken/missing saves issue seems to be fixed with is this fix.... ATTENTION! SAVES ARENT MISSING! - Bethesda Softworks Forums
What worked for me....
The above fix, than open steam, right click the game's exe, Properties, click Local Files, click Verify Integrity of Game Cache... Steam may or may not download some files/updates, but once that's done if steam doesn't relaunch, relaunch steam, check save system.
Since doing this, I've had no more issues with the save/continue system. Knock on wood.
Outside of that, the microstuttering is still there, and I've only had one crash thus far but things seems to be running smooth. Again, knock on wood | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-950 (3.06GHz) OC to 3.8GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 rev 1, F6 Bios Memory 12 gig Corsair DDR3 Dominator GT Memory (3X 4GB) Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD6950 2gig (Sapphire) Sound Card X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro Monitor(s) Displays HP ZR22w 22" LCD Monitor Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Wireless Wave Mouse Logitech Performance MX PSU Antec Signature - SG-850 Case Cooler Master HAF X Cooling Noctua NH-C12P SE14 Hard Drives Primary - OCZ Vertex 4 SSD (256GB). Since patch 2, My game has been a lot better.
The save issue seems to be fixed, which was a major issue for me.
Still get those framerate drops at times, but overall I agree the game is still enjoyable.
Im just forcing the AA and AF through CCC atm. It seems to help a good deal for my setup.
Played 5hrs straight last night with no apparent problems, aside from the framerate issue at times. No crashes or anything, so thats a good thing.
Although the framerate dropping and the stuttering at times is annoying as it can be. Its not something gamebreaking IMHO, still, I hope they fix it.
Overall, Im really enjoying this game though. It did seem to start off quite slow though, but once things got going its a lot better.
@Sygnus
For whatever reason, yesterday when I done the Integrety check I would get "1 file failed to vailidate etc.."
It would do this every time I ran the check.
Today, after patch 2, it Vaildates with no issues.

Didn't notice there was a second patch. Anyways yeah, when I did the integrity check it did come back and say there was a file missing, but after that it downloaded something, probably the second update, and all was good with the save/continue system.
BTW the missng file thing has been reported a couple of times over at Bethesda so when I got it I wasn't surprised. Might be fixed now that the second patch is out. Haven't checked yet.
