Windows 7 - Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2

It works but isn't smooth. Graphics card is ATI 4870 and I have the latest driver but it seems choppy. It may be the network code. My ping is typically 20 and now 40, which is low. I had some of this early in Vista and it was mostly the video card drivers which they did fix.

works beautifully for me on a nVidia GeForce 9400M.

Better than it did on XP I think

A lot of games will work better than they did on XP because the newer hardware have drivers optimized for Vista - and hence Windows 7.

I agree that it isn't as smooth. Net_graph 3 shows that it is more jumpy on the network end. However I also seem to be getting lower framerates than on Vista.

8800GT overclocked using Xtreme-G 180.42/180.84 drivers. (I tried both).

I got drivers labeled as 181.00 Beta drivers - cannot remember where I got them, but I got them after the 180.84 GTA IV optimized drivers were released. I could have sworn I got them at SLIZone, but the nVidia beta center now redirects back to the nVidia driver download site for all beta versions as well...perhaps the 181.00 were pulled....

at any rate, you can try to see if anyone still has them available - if not, I can find out if it is OK for me to host it for DLs....

TF2 doesnt disable Areo like it does on Vista before launching, you need to find the hl2.exe ("X:\Games\Steam\steamapps\username\team fortress 2\hl2.exe" ) click properties then the compatibility tab then only tick "Disable Themes or composition" one or the other disables Areo, however if you tick too many options or the wrong option then Steam will refuse to launch TF2

It actually runs very well here regurdless, but dont expect TF2 to be compatible until Windows 7 is closer to its release date as Valve do not have Windows7 to test their products on yet so its not optimized for Windows 7 Gaming

This is good information. What about running it in compatibility mode for Vista? Could that solve the networking code being better optimized?

I have an 8800GT, and I just installed the WHQL-certified 180.48 drivers. No problems here to speak off - although I will note that it crashes every now and then whenever I quit the game. Performance is pretty similar to Vista SP1. Or maybe, since my 8800GT runs this thing at 40+ FPS most of the time, I don't really notice any differences between 7 and Vista, performance-wise.

hey guys.
first of all, nice forum. really interesting stuff to read and nice people! good work

i also have this problem with tf2. and it is a network problem.
my net settings are fine and the pings on different servers are alright. but nevertheless it feels like i would be having a ping of 200ms or something.
i have to say, without wanting to attack anyone, i think this will only be noticed by more advanced players who move quickly and are usually on top of the scoreboard here, take a look at these two screenshots of my net_graph:

i have absolutely no clue what causes this. again - this is a lag / connection problem, not an fps issue

Great forums u guys have here

I got this problem with my TF2. After i installed Windows 7 (about a week ago), i was running TF2 @ 60fps in battles on all high. Now i barely get 15 fps on 32 slot server on respawn. and around 9 fps on 2fort battlements. The funny thing is, doesnt matter what settings i set, i still get same framerates... I don't really feel like reinstalling windows every week, so do any of you any idea on how to fix it?

my rig: Pentium 4 @ 3.0 GHz
2GB DDR2 @ 600MHz
x1950xt 256 mb @ 1280*1024 LCD

as i said, i'm getting smooth framerates after fresh install. also i can play COD4 on 64 slot server on med\high settings with fluid FPS(tested on vista).
