Process is running but nothing comes up on my screen or task bar

I seem to have a problem with programs acting like they are going to start, then I get nothing. say I want to play Warhammer 40k for instance, steam tells me its preparing it to launch but nothing happens, the window with the launch notification goes away but the game does not show on my screen nor my task bar, But if I bring the task manager up and go to processes it shows the games process is running.
But a game like Metro 2033 will run just fine.

My computer is fully updated (drivers as well)
    windows 7 64 bit
    Ive checked compatibility

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    :)

    Hi

    Welcome to Seven Forums :)
Are you by any chance running Comodo?
What resolution are you running your games at?

    Regards

    Thanks :)
Im assuming I am not running comodo seeing as how I do not know what it does D:
the resolution depends though, my computer usually runs at 1366x768
the games vary on how well they perform, I have to run Metro at 800X600...

It could be that your card+laptop is not able to run the game
I'm surprised that you are able to run Metro as that game has very high hardware requirements to play nicely.
this link was posted by Orbital Shark in another thread to allow users to check as to whether they can run applicable games - Can You run It?

Hope this helps out and regards

Thanks! while this tool is useful there seems to be a problem with it. According to this tool I do not even meet the minimum requirements on any game listed, I even went to a much older game, Halo 1

and the results I got was this:

    CPU Recommended: Pentium 4 or Athlon XP You Have: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHz PASS
CPU Speed Recommended: 1.5 GHz You Have: 2.26 GHz Performance Rated at: 4.068 GHz PASS
RAM Recommended: 512 MB You Have: 3.8 GB PASS
OS Recommended: Windows 2000/XP You Have: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (build 7600), 64-bit Unfortunately Windows 7 was not available when this product was released, so it is not OFFICIALLY supported. In some cases if the product runs on Windows Vista, it may also run on Windows 7. Please review the publisher’s website for more information.

Video Card Recommended: 64 MB DirectX 9.0 compliant Video Card with Hardware T&L You Have: Intel(R) HD Graphics (Core i3) Upgrade Suggested: Unfortunately, your Video Card does not meet this requirement. Click here to see some recommendations. Features: Recommended attributes of your Video Card

Video RAM- Required: 64 MB- You Have: 1.7 GB
    3D-Required: Yes-You Have: Yes
Hardware T&L- Required: Yes- You Have: Yes
Pixel Shader version- Required: 2.0-You Have: 4.0

Perhaps its that my graphics card is not mainstream such as Nvidia or ATI?

    Hi

You may be able to run some games on your computer but for most newer ones, you are going to have a hard time trying to run them, if at all.
Have a look at this link for more info - Game troubleshooting

Hope this helps out and regards

    Thanks for your help :)
guess I'm going to have to look into getting the graphics card replaced.
