@NotyourHero: i'm not sure what you mean by 'steam trolls' - in modern internet usage, a 'troll' is someone who comes on a forum and starts slagging everything off. hmmm.
@everybody: anyway, i've just had some fair treatment from steam: i bought the vietnam expansion (as in my OP) from steam 2 weeks ago. at the time there was no mention of needing the base game on steam, as it was only an unlock code that i needed - i had already downloaded the game content as part of the patch. i did my research and found a couple of threads where both an EA member and a DICE man said that the expansion would work wherever you bought it or the game. so i paid up.
imagine my dissapointment yesterday, when i didn't get any unlock code sent to me from steam. further research confirmed my worst fears - buying vietnam on steam is only good if you own bc2 on steam. grrr.
so i sent an email to steam support, and this is the (edited) reply :
sounds like good news to me. :)Hello, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Please note that this message is part of a mass response and addresses a number of common issues with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. We are sorry for the confusion, however the Steam version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam and the SPECACT Kit DLC are not compatible with versions purchased outside of Steam. The CD Keys for retail and EA Download Manager purchases of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 cannot be activated on Steam. If you were gifted Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam or the SPECACT Kit by another user on Steam, please have that user contact us in a separate Steam Support ticket using their own Steam Support account. If you were able to purchase Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam or the SPECACT Kit through the Steam Store but do not own Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on Steam, as a one-time customer service gesture we will issue you a direct refund or Steam Wallet credit. ...
i would advise anyone with the same problem to do the same - get onto steam support.
oh, and i'm enjoying the expansion too! back to old-skool weapons without fancy scopes...flamethrowers as well!
