DOOM On Windows 7 + Online

For some reason i had the urge to play doom today and done a bit of digging to see if i could get it working on Windows 7 Build 7000...

Go to Multiplayer Doom online - Skulltag to download the latest version of the engine, you will need original DOOM2.WAD at least to play this.... seems to be working fine both on and offline :)

Yeah it all works fine, and yes none of the old doom games will work on vista/7 without a new engine to play them in like this. Good luck finding the .wad files :)

I too had the urge to play this game, and I used ZDoom. A word of warning, stay away from full screen mode, as it wouldn't revert back to the desktop after I quit. And was quite a hassle to fix it.

Supposedly its just because some DOS files are missing, I've seen other's that have gotten it to work. I've never really tried that hard, because I always ended up played it on my old thinkpad (xp).

To get doom to run in vista you need to get the dplay.dll from the internet and put it into the folders for doom, doom 2 etc and it will play.

Interesting.. yes the openGL didn't work for me either, i not really looked into it as the other way works fine.

Can you play the original games online without using something like skulltag though? Single player is boring, would be good to see more people online. A few times the servers have been empty recently

Found an easy to launch any Doom, Heretic, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, on Win7 just as long as you have the .WAD file, will post a link to find them easily.
