    Steam not starting

Every time I want to log on to steam and play any of my games, steam won't start. Except when I first turn my computer on. I can click on steam and it will start and I can play my games just fine. The I come back later, say 2 hours, I click on steam icon and nothing happens. I have to go into task manager and turn off/close the steam.exe process. Then click steam icon and it starts up just fine. Some times I wont even start steam at all and go to click icon and no go....but it's in the task manager running in the processes tab....so how does that happen. I've closed out steam and restarted it sometimes that works. I've un-installed steam and reboot then re-installed steam then the long process of downloading games again....that doesn't work....same problem. Any ideas.

    Hello Bassfisher,

I found this after searching google, might be of help

This kind of thing is usually caused by an interruption in the update download which causes an error.

A possible fix for this problem is to navigate into your Steam folder and delete:

    ClientRegistry.blob
    Steam.dll
    SteamUI.dll

Make sure your steam is closed during this and then when you open it, it should re update. It's only a possible fix and seems to only work for some people. It's worth a shot.
By the way, you ae backing your games up arn't you??
    Not downloading them each time??

Hello bassfisher, I am sure you have looked at this but I don't see it mentioned in your post have you checked your hidden icons in your notification area? After Steam has been started on my system I can right click the hidden icon and access the Steam client.

Luckystar: tried that and didn't work.
Kellymac: yes I've looked there.....and it's not....but like I said it shows up in the running processes in task manager and not in the notification area....very strange.
