Can't run Oblivion, crashes on startup.

I've tried everything I can think of, installing, reinstalling, compatibility modes, patches.. Whatever, nothing works. All my drivers are up-to-date and I'm running Build 7100. My computer is more than capable of running Oblivion, it just doesn't want to.

    Help please?

x64? fill out your system spec's, that usually helps the progress of troubleshooting.
cant really help if we dont know what your using :P
also relevant... anti-virus/spy-ware protection. no-cd patch. all that good stuff.

Oblivion ran fine for me on 7100 x86. need a little more info, cheers

Okay, filled out the information. I'm runing Avast! as my anti-virus, I have a NoCD applied but the problem still occurred before I applied it.

i read that there is problems with oblivion and your processor. try setting the affinity to Cpu0 and Cpu1, that will disable 2 cores, and maybe, hopefully it might work. im not to sure, but i believe this is set in the task manager, by right clicking on the process name.
try that and let me know.

I couldn't really do that seeing as Oblivion crashes as soon as I launch it, I wouldn't even get a chance to get to the task manager

    hmm.... sorry, minor overlook...

here are links to a few programs that will set it before start up (supposedly)
    StartAffinity <- d/l version 1.3.1
http://usuarios.lycos.es/coreaffinity/ <- straight forward, looks easy to use.
    http://www.koma-code.de/index.php?op...d=88&Itemid=93 <- another one.

    best of luck!

Thats rather odd for that game to have such a problem with such a popular processor.

Oblivion came out in "05, i think duel cores were just becoming practical then.
i have a freind who spent 3000 on a pc w/ a quad, and everything he tried to play, ... well, did not play.
