What settings? Like the simpler graphics settings (low->medium->high), and things like AA?

Excess of anything is not good.
Don't do excess gaming, do moderate. Your pc needs rest too.
I won't agree with this, a PC can be used for weeks without being shut down, the components are designed to last and endure heavy use

Hey, Ive been wondering if I play games too much on my computer if it will get ruined.. My parents seem to think so but I dont agree with them.
It depends on your cooling components, excessive heat can damage the parts
    I never shut-down my pc.
I build a new updated pc every few years i switch ON and never shut-down.
24hours/365 days NEVER shut-down,with no problems.
I work, watch hd movies, play high end games everything in full specs and i never had any problem!

I don't really know what working a computer to hard is. The main thing I watch when doing something new that might be using my hard drive, ram ect. more than usual is the temps. If you temperatures stay normal then I don't worry about it. I turn my computers off when their not in use; I don't know of a good reason to leave them on when not is use. All that happens is they create heat and use up electricity and may shorten your computers life. If you temps. go up give your computer a good cleaning and extra cooling if need be.

    Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    HP
AMD ATHLON (tm) II X2 220 Processor 2.8 Ghz
    6 gb ram (5.75 usable)
    Ati Radeon Hd 4200

I dont play high fps/hard core games because my graphics card cant handle it,
but I do play half-life 2 and Burnout Paradise and sometimes Soldier Front (no lag in all 3). So what do you guys think ?

    Mines always on as well.

Back when I was recoding a bunch of my BluRays movies, I would Queue up a bunch of stuff and get it started encoding.

There were a couple times this machine was running full bore 100% load for 2-3 days straight.

I work mine to death and it keeps right on along no problems.

As long as nothings overheating, there should nothing to worry about.

    heat kill everything. :)

If you love gaming, spent on graphic card and gaming heat sink for CPU.
Ati card they create more heat than nvidia from my old experience. melt alot ati the old days but idk if the new product is diffrent from old card.

AMD runs way cooler then intel now from what i have seen my gpu runs around 45 to 50 c on average when gaming and underload idle round 39 to 40

Its all on the highest possible settings.. no lag and I dont even run game booster or turn off my antivirus during play. Filtering is antrosproctic (wrong spelling) 16x , Anti aliasing is 4x and everything else is high (reflective world, high detail, etc)
