steam will not log in and random crashes

    hey all

been having a few problems with steam since i just got my new pc with windows home premium 64 bit

My biggest problem is that when i eventually get steam installed and updated i try to log in and the log in screen just hangs there for about 5 mins without moving and sometimes it will log in or steam will not respond so i have to terminate it through task manager, Ive tried all the steam support fixes and thus far nothing has worked,is there anything i can do to get it to log in faster and not crash on me?

Another problem Ive had is with CCS and DODS, i have the disc to install the game but after if finishes installing i load up steam (eventually) to find it hasn't even installed it and i have to download the game from steam anyway and the connection is really slow too, Ive tried changing my download region and steam has an exception through my firewall but the download speed does not change

the final problem in getting is when i try to play any game that i have install, when i push the play button on steam to boot the game up steam freezes and wont respond and has to be terminated through task manager.

Ive never had any of these problems with XP apart from the odd update problem every now and then and starting to think moving to Win 7 might not of been a good idea.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! I'm out of ideas and its driving me insane.

I think steam doesn't sync with the new os because you need to download it from the site and update your specs through there.

steam is a sync program most likly it is crashing cause it still thinks your hardware is something else

By the way welcome to window forums choas

you have a pretty mean rig there ever try the site directly and not from the game itself ?

Actually there's nothing wrong with it installing from a game as it will update itself automatically anyway so that's not an issue.

What you might want to do is check your internet connection settings. Have a look at this... Steam - Troubleshooting Network Connectivity

Or this for general troubleshooting issues - Steam Support

Also want to add to check your Windows Firewall and make sure Steam, as well as any other Steam based games is checked to allow it to connect to the internet....

Yeah, it wouldn't hurt to check those settings too. Good point.

I did actually install steam from the site and steam is allowed through the firewall so as far i know all games housed in the steam apps folder should be included with the firewall exception, as for anti-virus programs atm i dont have any, recently re installed windows to check some GPU driver issues ( curse you GTX-580 and your unstable drivers!!! :)) so when i encounters the steam issues no programs were present to interfere.

Edit: well don't ask me how but steam has started to behave itself, don't know why, its stopped hanging on the log in and its downloading games at 700-900kbs, god i hate how erratic steam can be, they should either fix the issues which have been persistent since day 1 or just give people the option to play their games as stand alone programs rather than being totally dependent on steam. All the same thanks everyone for such a fast response ill definately be back if this problem or any others surface.

thanks solar for the kudos on my rig, its my golden child haha.

Steam has recently been offering me random crashes too i think it is due to the hotfix driver.

I uninstalled and went with the one off the site wish me luck .
