Fallout 3

Hi,

I have Fallout 3 and 2 of the addons..Will they work on Win 7 64 bit..I just bought a new Dell, 8 gb memory, ATI video card, a new DELL XPS-8300.

Just wondered if Fallout 3 works at all, or if you maybe need Fallout 3 GOTY edition, or need to do a lot of tweaks, as opposed to install and play..

Just out of curiosity, is Medal of Honor Pacific Assault playable on Win 7. its the only older game I have tried to install thus far and I never got past disk 2 in the installation...

Thanks!

Should be able to install and play. Fallout 3 is buggy in general, If it gives you too much trouble just go to the program executable in the main game folder right click it, choose properties open the compatibility tab and set it for windows xp sp3.

I havent had any major issues with it myself.

But, install the game in Windows Vista Compatability mode.
Just browse the disc for the setup.exe and set it to Compatability mode for Vista, then run the setup as admin and proceed as normal.

Also be sure to pach to the latest version.

I also think installing to a custom location is a good idea. Anywhere but the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folder.
Maybe make a Games folder on the C drive (C:/Games/Fallout 3 for example)

One thing you can do that works quite well is, download this file and put it in your fallout 3 directory. It helps out a lot reguardless of your setup by forcing the game to use a more comparable directX version (9). I swear by this tweak. hope it helps

Theres no way I would use a hacked dll for anything to run properly.

I know many will disagree .. but just my thoughts on it.
As far as NV, I find it runs just fine now.

I found FOSE and the Stutter Remover to wrok quite well for the bit of stutter that the engine has though.

But it isnt really needed for the game to run well, nor anything else IMHO, aside from a few ini tweaks that help.

cracked content is a game of dice, sometime leading to the need for a complete reinstall of the game.
I use no cd's for a couple of my games that have no multiplayer simply because they are on my short list of non steam games and I hate juggling disks every time I want to play. Using a no cd even if you own the game legitimately is still considered violation of eula though, and direct support for the game will more than likely be denied to you as well.
Some patchers will also refuse to run unless you have the proper game files in the game directory when they are run.

It's up to you in the end, the only real benefit is you won't have to dig up the disk anymore. More recently I have started buying everything I can get off steam because there's no disk involved.

The game is naturally bugged. You might have to make a few tweaks to get it working right. Lots of fun tho.

I am playing the steam goty version now..>

yeah I suggest saving often as well. The game doesn't autosave nearly enough and you can find yourself losing a lot of progress sometimes.

I think I remember reading from the start, and in the fo3 tweak guide it says. You should turn off the auto save stuff. Which I do for all games. I normally hard save in games that I can. Quick saves over write each other.

I read it can cause probs and lag or freeze lock up your system. And it has like 3 or 4 different reasons for auto saves to boot. Its best to manual save, and sometimes do a hard save too. Quick saves have more a change to corrupt, or for some games any way..

It is times I like to go back and play things a different way and make videos etc, so hard saves are better for me. If I get to many saves, I will delete out all but the last one maybe, but I save them all in a different folder.

If memory serves (it's been awhile) you get a new slot for every quicksave in FO3

Ya.

A game I can finish in a day or eve, is more like a demo. The 4 dlc's for 10 bucks each that follow- complete the game. Well, maybe?:D

I hate that, then most today are just poor port games, and now trying to cost 60 bucks. I can wait..

Every time I see xbox or ps is going to get some new content and not pc or will get it first, makes me want a game even less..

Well there is some hope the crytek engine for the new crysis will help that some. The goal was to be able to develop games for ps,pc, and xbox simultaneously. I hope this will start a new line of thinking with games and allow more releases to access more platforms in the future. ...don't know why no one has been making game engines like that makes perfect sense. ...longer dev time I guess.

Ya I seen a video of that crytek engine. Dude had pc up on the screen, but had a box for ps and xbox, he made a change on pc it changed it across the others at the same time.

My point was. PC gets crap for games and less of them, then they are short or buggy or port or sorry gfwl junk, then they want to milk ya and might not ever patch a thing while trying to do so.. It has been said and even about ms- they are trying to slow kill off pc gaming.. Most would rather push us all to consoles.

When I see xbox what ever will get content that the others will not or first- or ps will. It pisses me off. PC gamers spend more than the others, we get treated like crap, we mostly get crap, people buy it anyway. Now paying 60 bucks for crap games. Gets sickening after a while. When pc gaming is gone- I do not need a pc anymore- I will never play or own a console..

You can not play mp over the net and not be cheated, so I do not play mp games like talking about it. PC gaming is not much worth it any more.

Gaming got me into using a computer. Sad...

I too get irritated with $60 games that are over with in 5-7hrs. just no value it seems.

If you like games like Fallout, that have a lot to do and last awhile:

I would suggest giving Dragon Age Origins a shot.
A bit different style of game, and more strategic, but a good game and a pretty decent story line.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 were also quite good, and worth buying.

Then theres Fallout NV. Many did not like. I did, although I prefer FO3 over it. Story was better.
But, NV is basically the exact same game, just a different enviroment. Nothing new really.

Other opinions may vary, but these games are worth buying IMHO.
