AMD launches dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990 graphics card

AMD has finally launched the long-awaited successor to its dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970 and new flagship product topping its 6900 range. The Radeon HD 6990, otherwise known as Antilles, is made up of two tweaked versions of the HD 6970's Cayman XT core running at 830MHz, 3072 stream processors, 192 texture units, two 256-bit memory channels, 4GB of GDDR5 running at 5000MHz, and it consumes a maximum of 375W (37W during idle).

Let's hope they get the drivers right for this one. You hate to have to wait for "drivers to mature" to enjoy such an expensive card

Looks like a beast of a card, but not sure about the cooler when half the hot air gets dumped in to the case. Some sites show HDDs can heat up to 40C if they're behind it directly. I guess it's not much of a problem for cases with the intake fan in front of the HDDs, though.

Looks purty but at 700 smackers... it is definitely to rich for my blood. Besides, almost all the FPS games I will play will be console ports so I doubt I am going to be able to get the full effect from it.

I may consider one next year when they come down to about 150 bucks.

It would be fine in my case since the hard drives are on the right side of the case and the mobo and video card are on the left.

Yea some cases I imagine it won't be a problem, like with yours as well you have the intake fan blowing straight on to the back of the GPU as well.

It's depressing looking at reviews of the latest cards now and my GTX470 is now at the bottom of the benchmarks in less than a year.
