Discuss Dragon Age 2

Where the hell is home..I have that armor unlocked but got nfi where i have to go to get it

:D LOL - Did we miss the quest in the Main Plot - A New Home? ;)

That was one of the first quests you did when you went to Kirkwall - after you did your yearlong servitude :)

lol...have'nt done the full year atm, ty

Not sure you have to do the year thing first, seems you're doing fine without it, but you really do want to go home. You have some nice things waiting for you ;)

I don't have to use tactics as much at all in combat. I used to have to change the tactics around etc in DA but in DA2 I pretty much just let everyone do their own thing and it usually works out well. So in a sense I agree the combat has been "dumbed down" and is more fast paced I would say. But the effects and movements in combat are awesome.. I love the lightning and telekenetic power effects on my mage.

And he looks like a badass with his staff rather than just the normal bolts the staffs used to cast. Theres all kinds of added effects and movements that are a nice touch I feel. The crafting professions have been pretty dumbed down as well. Its like you just order all your runes and potions on rune.com and they are just delivered to you now instead of having to take time and make the potions bombs, runes.

As far as the relationships sometimes I miss having your party all together at 1 campsite. Where you can keep up with the conversations and talk to everyone quickly. But, everyone having their own space isnt that bad. The gifts are done alot differently they take the guesswork out of it and it automatically gives the gift to whoever it is meant for which is nice i guess. My mage just dumped isabella and is shacking up with Anders now

Exactly. Even it's "dumbed down" it works rather well, and in my opinion, better.

And let's not try to ignore the fact that there were lots of complaints about DA:O's combat system as well, especially tactics.

And yeah, the special effects and combat moves are pretty badass

Overwhelming storyline, retarded combat system, pulling chars from DA:O to bring the former glory to the sequel, a soundtrack just as uninteresting as in DA:O, graphics not even close to that of the previous game, I'd say DA2 isn't worth much of anything.

It seems like every nug-humping dust-eater from the Undercity to the Viscount's Keep wants to screw me over just so I'd have to make a tough decision. More than 80% of the storyline left me in disdain, shouting: "Oh, come on!" While there were some very interesting aspects, the execution is ridiculous. Seriously, Bioware? Talking to companions is now a quest? And I can only do it in their homes, even though they're already in my actual party at the same moment? Applause for the idiot who thought of that. The companions' reactions (most of the time) can't be "fortold" like in DA:O, so the scale of friend/rival (lol) is somewhat unpredictable. In DA:O companions had actual reaction to what you do; here they just comment on something you said and most of the time it doesn't even affect the conversation at all (Merill's comments are so funny and innocent, but nobody payed any attention to it, not even the main character, where I wanted to start a romance between him and Merill).

Combat system is designed to make the most important part of the game easy. Seriously, it was "press X to win". With the habits I picked up in DA:O there was no boss that could kill anyone of my companions, not even the High Dragon in the Bone Pit, or even Meredith herself. Special move here=instant kill, special move there= instant kill, this spell=instant kill, that spell=instant kill... No wonder the game constantly throws new gangs at me, I keep clearing their bases one by one easily between other missions, lol. Me forcing strategies and habits from DA:O upon the sequel makes this game utterly uninteresting, since I really didn't want to play it out as a hack&slash game. Nevertheless, there are some sweet animations when it comes to rogues (even though half the time I couldn't see anything because of the stupid camera in tight spaces acting on its own, not to mention the fact that characters get stuck into what little environment we do have in DA2, go through walls and fall down cliffs and stairs...

Anders, Zevran, Alistair, Flemeth, Leliana, that bold guy from Lothering with his poison traps... Seriously? I suspected Leliana whould come up as soon as I heard the accent of the Seeker at the very beginning, but her appearance was intriguing indeed. Alistair appearing for five minutes reminded me of how much the graphics pale in comparison to the first game, not to mention that there seriously is no humor in DA2 (yes, Bioware, we know that swooping is bad, and Alistair dislikes it). Anders acts like a girl, not to mention that he doesn't look like himself at all; and if I'm not mistaken, even the voicework wasn't the original one form Awakening. I haven't met Zevran during the first playthrough, but I know I read somewhere that he appears too. Flemeth has no part in this game beside her first appearance, which, again, doesn't make sense, as I already mentioned in another thread. If the champion's family was fleeing darkspawn from Lothering, this should have been in the timeline between the destruction of the village and the point where Morrigan asks you to kill Flemeth, where she kept her appearance in DA:O but was changed in DA2. lol

For music enthusiasts, the DA2 soundtrack is not much of an improvement over DA:O, that's all I can say. It can still be somewhat interesting to listen to outside of the game, but after a few plays it just ended up in a box with the rest I have ripped to my PC and never listen to unless I'm in a good mood.

To be continued? bleh, do I have to?

The demo didn't nearly show just how bad it is compared to the old one. People can complain about the combat system in DA:O all they want; most of them are console fanboy kids who are only used to button mashing.

I just finished my first playthrough on my mage and I agree I liked it overall. The final battle was epic and I felt extremely powerful. Boy did I fall in love with the wrong person that playthrough! I think I will try a warrior next time. Part 3 has to be extremly epic and even bigger in scale than both the first games combined to be satisfying with all the plots they have dangling.

I got the DLC guy REALLY late I was almost ready for the final battle when I added him so couldnt really decide if I liked to party with him. Merril is just annoying probably my least fav I left her on the shelf most of the game and I didnt care if she liked me or not.

Gornot, if you want this game to be hard, try beating it on Nightmare difficulty. Odds are, you won't. With you constantly talking about instant kills it sounds like you were playing on Casual or MAYBE Normal. Well guess what, if you set the game to easy of course it's going to be easy. Ancient Rock Wraith on Nightmare really is nearly impossible. Looking at his health bar is like being a diabetic staring at a 9 foot long Mars bar and being told you have to eat the entire thing.

First playthrough with the normal difficulty, of course, I don't dare touch the Casual difficulty, I'd probably kill myself. I regret I played on normal, too, lol, but since I'm returning the game to my friend tomorrow, I won't be able to get through the whole game again on higher difficulty... Not that I want to, anyway... Maybe in a few months when the amount of games that are actually good is usually lower.

The feel of DA2 as an individual RPG game is good, but it's not worthy to be the sequel to DA:O
Just my two cents.

No Spoiler material please!

As a reminder - do us the courtesy of not posting spoiler material - there are still some of us who are playing the game. Not everyone can run through a game in 6 hours.

Whether the game too easy for you or not is irrelevant.... being courteous is :)

This is just a general reminder - not pointing any fingers.

Thanks.

Though I haven't finished the game yet, I can respect that opinion. I've felt the same way about other sequels.

Thanks

Pro tip: Smartalec Hawke (purple icon) = hilarious dialog. "must be near massive head trauma bay. Nobody? Must just be me." Not flipflopping on dialog makes the stuff (s)he says even funnier. Decide what type of personality you're gonna be beforehand, and stick with it the entire game. Makes the dialog hilarious.
To sum up:
Diplomatic/Helpful Hawke = Green and Blue, will still insult people, but with a smile
Sarcastic/Charming Hawke = Purple. Varric in particular responds well to these options, as does Isabela. Source of some of the funniest lines in the game
Aggressive/Direct Hawke = Red. Very disagreeable person, shouts a lot. Generally a bit of an unpleasent person to even play.

Alright, I got pretty far into the game, I have to say I'm impressed. So what if this doesn't live up to Origins, at least you've got a game.

Sure the game isn't perfect, but I'm actually enjoying this, particularly the story. I really love how deep it gets into your companions. Also, the choices you've faced with are difficult. I'm a mage, so yeah... not the most popular group.

Fenris is unbelievably stubborn...

I have to admit I'm hooked. I've been playing for about 3 hours a setting - usually play 2 a day.

BTW I STILL haven't started the Deep Roads Experdidtion yet.... just love those side quests :D

The only thing that's annoying the heck out of me is the sound. Ugh.... they need to hurry up and get that patched. It really does kill the immersion

Outside of that, fun game

And yeah, Fenris is a trip.... Drama Queen, although Anders might be fighting for the title :)

A good read that explains why some people are disappointed:
Dragon Age 2 - News Roundup #7 - RPGWatch Forums

A little fragment from that:

Gamersmint noticed Inon Zur says he was pushed and it was "kind of a rush job". Interesting comments:
Zur: Sure thing. I’m actually really anxious for the game right now, so I can pop it in and start playing. I’m really looking forward to see it. I know there are a few bugs that still need to be fixed. Unlike other titles from Bioware, this [score] was kind of a rush job. EA really wanted to capitalize on the success of Origins, so the game was really being pushed hard to be released now. So I’d like to know if there are bugs, or if there’s anything we could patch or fix.

I've put this on the backburner until they do fix the sound actually..it drops in ok then it's back to the echo chamber and so on...Homefont come's out tomoorow and I have that preorderd so it's not like I won't have something to play.
As for movement and combat..all the spcial attacks etc are linked to hot keys (aka numbers) thats fine but pity they did'nt consider using the bloody mouse to move and oh I dunno maybe have the camera track your toon...like ummmm maybe how it's done in WoW...Blizzard have a far better set up there.
And maybe not so many cut scenes/ in game movie BS. And Load screens ffs.
Other than that game is ok, not brilliant but playable. :)
