You could use a coolpad. I myself have used the Targus ( coolpad - BestBuy ) It drops the temp by appr 10 degrees F. But a laptop is not really a good option for gaming anyhow.

Another option is to replace the spinning disk with an SSD - but that costs real money. That is how I fixed the heat problem on a HP laptop. The CPU and the disk are the main sources of heat,

Well, laptops are not bad for gaming, they just not as good as desktops. I gamed on a laptop for a few years without any major problems, although it did get hot occasionally, they normally just don't perform as well and are very limited in their cooling options. When i moved back to a desktop because i had the room, it was just a big step up in a lot of aspects. It doesn't mean you cant game on a laptop. you can!

A coolpad should help out as previously suggested.

A good free way, but a little less elegant is to set the laptop on a book elevated from the desk. Just check where your fan intakes are, and make sure they are unobstructed.

Because my laptop doesn't really move i got a green cutting mat from spotlight ( not sure if they are international or not, if your in aus you will know what that is) Anyway, i got 4 rubber stoppers and used epoxy glue to glue them onto the mat, that raises my laptop about 1cm off the table and keeps it quite cool compared to how it used to be.

Nearly all laptops have the fan on the bottom, if you place your laptop on a soft surface like a bed or your lap then the fan holes can be blocked, just put your laptop on a hard surfaces like a thin piece of wood and you should be fine, if not invest in a cooling pad.

Laptops by nature have very cramped quarters. That is why you cannot really fit a powerful graphics card ( one with a WEI over 7.0) and if you have one that is relatively powerful, you get the effect that you are seeing - heat problems. That does not mean that you cannot use them for games, but with a desktop you have far better possibilities - including a watercooling option.

All this chat about cooling got me thinking of another way to cool my laptop, I was looking for something in the house I could use that everyone would have (most likely). After a bit of searching I came across a unused picture frame (stay with me). I measured it and it was wide enough for my laptop to sit on. Also it was deeper then my laptop (so air could flow out the gap at the back), i decided to give it a go.

I basically took the glass and backing plate out so i was left with the wooden frame itself, and rested my laptop on top of it, there is a 5cm gap between the back of the laptop and the far edge of the frame, running CPUID it reported a temp drop of 10 degrees! just a crazy thought for 4 in the morning..
