How to change the default screen resolution in games?

How do you change the defual screen resolution because in most games the screen resolution automaticly goes down to 800x600 or 640x480
And I have ATI CCC 11.2 installed on my computer and my maximum resolution is 1280x800 and my computer is a laptop

If thats the case you're stuck with what ever resolution the game supports.

I tend to agree, that there is not much that can be done, but go to search and type device manager. In DM make sure that the driver for the monitor is up to date.
