Windows 7 finds "problem" and closes game Dear All:
Good evening from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.
Is it just me who has these problems? Every time I'm playing Napoleon or Empire, the game crashes to the desktop and I get a dialogue box that says, "Windows has found a problem and needs to close the game. Windows will notify you when a solution has been found."
What do I do to solve this? Is it too much to ask to have a nice session with either of these two games?
Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!
Sincerely yours always,
Indy. | My System Specs |

Corrupt drivers or not installing the game correctly can create this problem... this is what I would do.
Grab the latest audio and video drivers from manufacturer and copy to a folder you can easily find later. Uninstall drivers (including PhysX if you use an Nvidia card), restart and install clean drivers.
Do not install the drivers on top of the old one, it needs to be a clean install.
After that, go back to the game executable and Right click on it using Run as Administrator, follow steps and if its ask you to install DirectX, go ahead and do so.

You won't be able to uninstall PhysX because you don't have an Nvidia video card. The drivers won't be on your computer, hence, why I told you to grab them from the manufacturer (AMD/ATI)
To uninstall the drivers you have now you can do so from Control Panel or Device Manager... If you don't know where these are, no offense, but I am going to suggest you ask a friend that knows about computers to do so, otherwise, you may damage your pc even more.
Now, there is nothing wrong with learning, I just don't want to feel responsible if something goes wrong while you attempt to do so | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) CPU Intel Q9650 Motherboard EVGA 780i FTW Memory 8GBs Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz Graphics Card Asus GTX660 (2GBs) + MSI 9600GT (PhysX) Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays Acer AL2216W Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU PC Cooling 750w Silencer Case Thermaltake Spedo Advance Cooling CM 8V Hard Drives WD VelociRaptor 300GB

RE: Windows 7 finds "Problem" Dear Delta Vista:
Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.
Update here, Vista. I did find a place to uninstall PhysX and downloaded a whole new upgrade. Now, I just hope I followed your instructions well enough to get Empire and Napoleon to behave themselves.
I'll keep you posted. I thank you kindly for help!
Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!
Sincerely yours always,
Indy.
P.S. How do I find out if Empire or Napoleon had installed PhysX? 2) Is this anything like DirectX?

Also the game(s) doesn't require or install PhysX (Ex: Mirror's Edge installs PhysX, whether you need it or not), and you have no Nvidia card, then there's no need to install PhysX.
So what is the game that's giving you trouble?
Also be aware that if a game did install PhysX and you remove it, the game will complain, even if you don't have an Nvidia card. In short, if a game installed PhysX, leave it. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-950 (3.06GHz) OC to 3.8GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 rev 1, F6 Bios Memory 12 gig Corsair DDR3 Dominator GT Memory (3X 4GB) Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD6950 2gig (Sapphire) Sound Card X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro Monitor(s) Displays HP ZR22w 22" LCD Monitor Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Wireless Wave Mouse Logitech Performance MX PSU Antec Signature - SG-850 Case Cooler Master HAF X Cooling Noctua NH-C12P SE14 Hard Drives Primary - OCZ Vertex 4 SSD (256GB). RE: Windows 7 finds "Problem" Dear Sygnus:
Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.
"Napoleon" and "Empire" are, respectively, Napoleon: Total War and Empire Total War. I just got tired of typing out the last two words. I'm also having problems with a mod on Civ IV: Warlords. I'm now thinking of upgrading my Direct X. I've got a Windows 7 32-bit OS.
Please note that I've never had this problem with Medieval 2: Total War. Other than the problem I'm having now, Windows 7 is living up to its reputation of being kind to older games.
Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!

OK, none of those games use or install Physx so you don't have a physx problem. Bottom line is PhysX has nothing to do with your issues in these game.
BTW here's a list of games using PhysX - PhysX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Also since both games are DX9 titles I would say make sure you Update your Direct X files (June 2010)

You're going to have to list your system specs so know what cards (sound & video) you have in order to help find the right drivers. Please see this tutorial on filling out system specs
