    I Need DOSBox Help

Feel out of place in the forum with all the Prtal 2 and Crysis 2 talk haha :P

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume a few people know how to run Jazz Jackrabbit on DOSBox. Basically when i type the JAZZ prompt it says i need to run setup to configure my sound card. So i enter setup and select one of the cards, then i hit save and exit. Then i type JAZZ again and it just tells me to setup my sound card again. It says on the status window Warning: File Creation Failed for SOUNDCARD.INF. I'm running on Windows 7 64bit. Anybody know how to get this game working?

More info: I've never Used DOSbox before so maybe i've done something wrong. In the dosbox folder i made a folder called Programs, and inside that i made a folder called Games. I put all the files inside the games folder. Is that the right thing to do?

Look in the directory where the program is and look at the file extensions. The one that actually runs the program might be a .com file and the Jazz.exe file might be the configuration startup file.

You can do that in Win Explorer.

There's only JAZZ.EXE and JAZZ.PIF. I read that the .PIF is for running through windows instead of DOSBox but it says my windows version isn't compatible with it.

OK in the DosBox command window with JJrabbit directory, or whatever name you gave this program in your Games directory, as the current directory run Setup.exe. Select your sound card, I chose Soundblaster 16, then Save and Exit.
    The run Jazz.exe.
I think the problem is you never ran the setup.exe to save the configuration to the .INI file so it always asks you to select a sound card. But then it is not saving it because you haven't.

That's what i've been doing though "So i enter setup and select one of the cards, then i hit save and exit. Then i type JAZZ again and it just tells me to setup my sound card again. It says on the status window Warning: File Creation Failed for SOUNDCARD.INF."

Is there anything i'm forgetting to setup at the start? I'm dragging the JAZZ.EXE file over the DOSBox shortcut to open it, instead of typing in all of the commands to mount the c drive and everything.

    NO NO
You need to create a folder on one of your hard drives called Games. then in the configuration file, start menu Dosbox.xx Options, you need to Mount that X:\Games folder as the C drive.
    [autoexec]
    # Lines in this section will be run at startup.
    # You can put your MOUNT lines here.
    mount c F:\games
    C:

Or when you start Dosbox you need to enter Mount C X:\Games
Then CD to the folder you have Jazz Jacket Rabbit in
    C:\games>CD C:\JJrabbit[whayever you call it]
Then run setup.exe then save and exit the setup.
Then start the game by typing Jazz.exe
At least that is the way I've done it on the Shareware version and it is working fine for me.
I would seggest you don't drag and drop on the Dosbox shortcut. If you read the DB instructions it tells you do do it the way I'm doing it. I run a few games on Dosbox and they all work.

I crated a folder called games already inside a folder called Programs.

    Ok here's what i've done

    Z:\>mount c programs

    Z:\> C:

    C:\>cd games

    C:\GAMES>jazz

After that i did the setup, chose a sound card, saved and exited, typed jazz and it still asks for the sound card again

Is that game in its own folder? jjrabbit
Really you are making this hard, sorry.
Try creating a folder on some other drive then the real C drive called Games. I have mine on my F drive but any other drive then C will work and maybe even the C drive would be OK.
Then place the directory for jjrabbit under that Games directory.
    Start Dosbox and type
Mount C [Drive letter of the drive you have the Games folder on]:\Games
    at the Z:\> prompt
    And you should get this
    C:\>
Then type CD C:\[the directory you have the jazz game in] (on my system it is jjrabbit so I would type cd C:\jjrabbit).
Then you should get C:\>jjrabbit (if you are using that directory name or whatever directory name you stored the jjrabbit game under)

If that doesn't work then I'd say where ever you got this game from it is FUBAR and try getting it someplace else.
Let me ask is that games folder you have under the Programs folder do you have more then one game in that folder and are they all in different subdirecrtories.

    What i have is C: > Dosbox-0.74 > Programs > Games > jazz.exe

In the games folder i also have all the other files for the game. I never created any more folders inside the games folder. I've tried the game from 2 different sites so i don't think it'll be the game that's the problem.

Then it is the way you have setup you folder structure.

Sorry but if you are unwilling to try my suggestions, and as far as I know the DosBox creators suggestion, as to the folder structure I don't think I can be of any more help.

The game runs just fine on my setup, sound and all. Without ever prompting me to select my sound card. That is after I originally ran the setup.exe, saved and exited and then run the game.

One thing I notice is you have that Programs folder under (as a subdirectory) of the Dosbox folder/directory. That is NOT a good Idea. That is where you are getting screwed up. Dosbox needs it own folder and the games need another folder away from the dosbox folder

PLEASE create a folder called GAMES on your C drive. The another folder under that called jjrabbit and move all the jazz game files to that folder.
    Then start dosbox.
    Then mount C C:\Games
    Then CD C:\jjrabbit
Then run setup.exe (you know the drill) save and exit.
    Then jazz.exe.
