    Fallout 3

The current Fallout 3 link has grown to a pretty huge size and I figure most of us (like me) check this awesome forum often and are familiar with much of what is in that Fallout 3 forum.

I do apologize for creating a new Fallout 3 thread - please delete this admin if necessary.

My question is (and it's difficult to find this answer in the current thread) what is the current state of Fallout 3 for most users? Build 7100 RC, x86 and\or x64? Latest leaked build 7264, x86\x64? Working for most people? How about DLC?

I'm debating on installing XP again on my laptop but love Win 7's look and feel and stability (for me) so much that I'd rather install it.

I'm running build 7100 RC. I don't know about any DLC, but I recently bought Fallout 3 (weekend sale for $25) and have been running it without any problems.

I too, am playing through Steam. Thus far, I've haven't ran into any problems except one that involves resolution to be 'cut off' even when previously the game ran normally with the resolution unchanged. Not sure if that's an error on my part.

I haven't heard about any problems from people inside the threads so the only reccomendations are the following...
    1. Update ALL DRIVERS (Look up your manufacture of your devices for them (Don't trust Windows Update)
    2. Change your theme to Windows 7 Basic (It might prevent some incompatibilites between Aero and Fallout 3)
    3. Install Fallout 3 in compatibility mode for Windows Vista and update the game completey
    4. Run the game in compatibility mode (or the STEAM launcher).

Hopefully that should resolve some issues

Just the occasional Fallout 3 has stopped responding error message on exit or when minimized under Vista Ultimate 64 or Windows 7 RC 7100 64-bit. Actually seems to run smoother for me under Windows 7 and haven't tweaked anything. Using the Steam version, Nvidia drivers, and haven't tried any of the expansion packs yet.

    Update Direct X

There's been an update from March 2009 candidate for Direct X both: 9 and 10 versions.

Try updating it, if that doesn't work, search for other help at web.

Updating Direct X usually covers all the problems.

You can get it from here.

I just recently installed Windows 7 RC 7100, and Fallout 3 was the first game I installed to test things out. Aside from being unable to get my 7.1 surround sound working, the game itself seems to run fine.

DISCLAIMER: I've only played far enough to get out of Vault 101 and barely into Megaton, so take that with a grain of salt. So far, it seems smooth and I haven't seen a glitch outside of my 7.1 surround issue. I also haven't tested much since I installed the Fallout 3 1.6 patch.

No issues here yet, running 7100, Aero desktop, all graphics on as high as they go...

it still works fine on my build 7600!

i'm lucky to be able to run it in glorious 1920x1080 with enhanced texture packs using my new ati hd4890.

i also have 5.1 audio working with my creative x-fi gamer - although was very crashy until i found the correct alchemy settings.

i just upgraded from build 7232 a few hours ago, and fallout 3 (steam-powered) was one of the first things i tested and it survived the upgrade process unscathed and still works fine! i've just been talking to doctor pinkerton about androids

it crashes when i exit the game, but it did that before, and a quick ctrl-alt-del sorts it out.

    install and enjoy!
