Anybody playing OFP: Red River yet?

The last game was a flop, at least the campaign was, I couldn't pass the first 30 minutes to an hour when I tossed it to the side but it appears this one may be the tactical game that I have long for since Ubisoft decided to make Ghost Recon into a Star Wars Lego game with the new GRFS.

    The videos look good.

    Yep.

I'm up to Mission 5 atm and I have to say that I'm actually enjoying it so far.

I didn't like the original. Never even finished the first mission - so it's hard to compare the two for me.

Gameplay feels 'tactical' enough to give the impression of it being tactical, but it's definitely no sim. There's no doubt it's console orientated, but it's a pretty decent blend between arcade and tactical. 'Accessible' is probably an apt description for it.

Visually it's quite nice with all in game details maxxed and it feels nice and smooth. Enemy AI isn't too bad and your squad generally does what you want them to.

The storyline is so-so. Typical 'America Rocks' Marine Oorah! get some-get some posturing BS.

It's by no means perfect, but it is quite fun.

No worries mate. On the plus side, by the time it's released in June - there might be a patch or two to iron out any bugs :)

Well, I thought I had a brain fart since I went to check again and Gamespot has it for April 26... I found it somewhat weird that US release would be 2 months away.

Keep the reviews coming... I played Crysis 2 at a friends house but it doesn't appear I will be getting the game, to much of nothing for me really and I have done MW2 to death already just waiting for something else to play. Hell, I was even thinking on Undusting my copy of Ghost Recon (the real one) but I can not even find it... I am sad

Oh and, before I forget, some of the things I hated most about the previous OFP were... I use my mouse (G9) for mostly all functions (walk, aim, RoF, Reload) and leave the KB for the rest.

My G9 mouse has 2 main buttons, left is for fire and right is for walking, middle button (MB) is for switching weapons, RMB is for Reload and LMB is for aim, side mouse buttons differ depending on the game.

    1.- no toggle for AIM

1a.- If and when I would aim (having to use a finger to keep the LMB pressed), the character would keep moving forward or sideways and I couldn't understand why. I don't think is my mouse because I don't have this issue with any of the other games I play so it must be something with the coding of this game and I am wondering if that issue will be there for Red River.

2.- I had to have 1 weapon and a pistol, I couldn't have 2 weapons. I usually like to keep a sniper rifle and assault weapon with me at all times, pistols are almost never use... at least I don't

Keys binds are programmable, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to re-map certain keys on the mouse to your liking.

There is no Aim toggle option, so I suspect you'd have the same issue with Aiming and walking being bound to the same key.

You can have two weapons, although you do start out with limited options in your selectable 'loadout' until you unlock weapons as you progress. You can pick up enemy weapons in mission however.

Yes, this I know and way to many options in the previous title but I managed to use only the ones I wanted and unbound those I didn't.

Well, that sucks and I often wonder why they don't have this option anymore... do they not see that having to use another finger for this option in counter productive aside from annoyance?

Therein lies the problem... I was not using the same key for walking and AIM but two different keys: Walking = Right Mouse Button ---------- AIM = Left middle Button bound to the "K" KB letter. Unless there is a relation to any of those keys?

Bugger all games use it now. Don't know why - it used to be a standard =0/1 variable in most game engines.

    My misunderstanding.

I'm a 'default key' claw gripper, so I've never tested that sort of layout. I honestly couldn't say if that combo would work the way you want it to or not.

It works with any other game, it is Awesome if I do say so myself, a quick tab to the left on the middle button and you're aiming down the sights or scope in a jiffy ... having to look for a KB button directly on your KB would take double or triple the time, time that could be significant for a head shot against you.

Oh well, I guess this will be another game that I will need to wait for a patch or someone with skills to see if a Toggle can be had by playing with an INI or CFG file... that is like Greek to me.

I find that that clicking the right mouse button is jiffy enough for me :)
