Whenever i try to start it, a black screen comes up, and i have to CTRL+ALT+DEL outof it and end the task, i had it working fine on vista 64 bit, and i have tried all the advoce i could find on the net and this forum...Including whats found on this thread: Fallout 3 on Windows 7.
(im almost done reading it, ive tried all the advice.....)
    Anybody got a clue?

I had the same exact problem. the patch has problems with the aero feature of windows 7. TRY THIS: go to appearance and personalization in your control panel and turn off the aero theme and use the windows 7 basic theme. I took me a while to find this fix- as simple as it is-and i'm amazed its not more widely known, so i'm putting it out there in hopes it works for you and others who have agonized as i have...

This thread was four months old, and there is a thread going with numerous solutions and suggestions that have been posted, here - Fallout 3 on Windows 7.

Don't even need to do all that if you want to run it with aero disabled, just check on disable Desktop Composition from the shortcuts properties and it will run with aero off, soon as you stop running it, it will switch back.

seeing as how there are so many posts, i read several pages and didn't see anyone with mine. so maybe someone can help me.

I'm using an iso image of GOTY with Virtual Clone Drive on W764, and it refuses to install. It says its incompatible with 64bit windows, and to contact the publisher for a version that runs.

The image was made from a disc i bought secondhand, intended as a backup. the disc was then promptly destroyed by my dogs. so I don't have a "legit" copy of the game and am reluctant to go buy one if the problem is with using an iso.

is there an easy workaround? a patch, etc? i've tried running under different compatibillities, as admin, changing the InstallShield folder's name (a fix I read elsewhere), and various other remedies.

The computer in question is a Toshiba Satellite L455 laptop, so i doubt its driver issues. I'm fairly confident its some technical issue with running the installer.

    Your dog ate the disc?

The ISO problem itself has nothing to do with the actual Fallout game.

If you have made backups of your games before, then you already know that if a game requires the disc to play, it will see a ISO as a copy and insist on the original disc.

This is no different than any other game you may make a backup of.

The problem may lie in the fact its a copy of the disc, the Virtual Drive or both.

If this was second hand, hopefully you got the keys you need to activate once you get it installed.

It works fine for me on windows 7. What your describing that happens when you start up with mods that arent compatible with fot3. I dont think its the fact that you have windows 7 installed, because it works fine on my pc, and my new laptop I just got.
