    how to patch Battlefield 2142

I've installed the game and everything works except the servers. I know I need a patch, but when I download one my OS doesn't recognize the file type. I've tried getting it on 2 different systems: WIN XP and WIN 7. Some help would be appreciated.

I'm confused by "when I download one my OS doesn't recognize the file type" - I just looked at the file here and it's an exe - download | Joystiq

Are you saying your system doesn't recognize exe files?

Also where did you get your game from? And where were you getting the patch from?

I think that's the same file I downloaded, but neither of my computers recognize it as an executable file. Downloading it just to be sure. I'm running a desktop with windows 7, and a netbook with windows XP.
I got the game for my birthday so I don't exactly know where it came from. Probably amazon.

Well I'm not going to download the file because it's over 500MB and I don't have the game. I will say that if the patch is indeed an exe file and Windows isn't recognizing the file (.exe), you have bigger problems.

If the file isn't an exe, what is it?

    Thanks.

Try installing Gamespy comrade and update it through comrade, it worked for me.

Why is he installing that? And what is it?

A bit of information would be helpful.

    Thanks

If the file doesn't download completely, you will end up with a partial file and that may be the reason the OS doesn't recognize the file.

    try this site,
Battlefield 2142 1.5 Full Installation Download, Battlefield 1943 Patches

Also, I've read that there aren't too many servers running for this game anymore, which is a shame since I personally liked the game.
this was the first game I ever pre-ordered.

No idea. when I click on the file it asks to search the internet for a program to open it with. when I bring up the properties it says unknown file type.

Well then I would suggest you find the patch somewhere else.

BTW can you post an image of the patch and post it?

And Zepher is right about a partially downloaded patch being problematic.

@ Zepher, is that an exe patch?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Not sure it will work. Try moving the patch off of your c: or main os drive to a storage drive and then try it. If you do not have a storage drive try and burn it to disc and then try and install it from the disc- or maybe try and put it on a flash drive thumb drive what ever you want to call them and try it..

When I install stalker soc my patch will not work unless I move it off the c drive. Maybe it will work for you too. W7 can act right stupid at times.. Took me like 17 hours to figure that one out..

Any time I download a program or patch exe etc. Before I try an install them I right click them go to properties look bottom right and click unlock. Then do what ever you want with it. To install right click install as admin..

    Good luck..
