Dragon Age 2 Has Stopped Working...

    Hi,

I have been unable to launch dragon age 2 since I picked up my game on release day months ago. After posting numerous times on the forum and trying a ton of fixes to no avail, I gave up for a while. Recently bioware just came out with patch 1.03. So I installed the game again, installed the patch and run into the same issue.

    Issue:

Every time I install the game, when I click play on the launcher it fails and I get the error message "Dragon age 2 has stopped working." Here is the error message:

    Problem signature:

Hopefully someone has come across this issue and can help. Thanks very much!

I don't own DA2, that DLL looks like it has something to do with Visual C++ 2008 redist, try updating it? Had issues with Mass Effect 1 and it helped alleviating crashing.

I have tried updating and reinstalling Visual C++ 2008 resdist and it hasn't fixed the issue sadly.

Does your card have a BIOS update available? I had to update my old Sapphire 4870 for stability reasons.

Since we basically have the same system (see my specs) I can definitely say Dragon Age 2 should be working on your system spec wise. We definitely have the same video card so that should be an issue. And No, you don't need to mod the card.

    So.....

Have you updated your DirectX files?
    Tried to latest cat drivers?

I was playing on the 11.4 preview drivers. I could update to 11.5 but plenty of people say both worked. I'm not quite sure what I would need to download from the directx website. The june redistributable? I tried that but it asks me to find a destination for it in my computer. Perhaps I have it installed incorrectly? Not really sure how to go about it.

Just ryy this one and let it do it's thing - DirectX End-User Runtime

And even though Windows 7 is DX11 capable doesn't mean it has all the DX9 files. That's why you update.

Went to run the program, said there was already an equivalent installed. Guess I had updated. I'll update the catalyst drivers to 11.5 as well.

Event ID 1033 is usually a failed installation of sorts, but with extension msvcr80.dll, I'm guessing that it's something to do with the latest .net framework not installed. Have you tried to update to .net framework 4?

I had .net framework 4, but I repaired it to its original state anyway. Still received the same error.
