    Cannot Get BF2142 to Run

I have looked at all other threads I can find and with that advice I still cannot get BF2142 to work. It crashes a little after it goes full screen.

I have Original version. Then update to 1.4, Northern strike, then 1.5. I have also tried without Northern strike. I have installed with Compatibility mode for each install with XP SP3 as well as Vista.

    Here is the error report:

It looks like a video render error.
Ok here is what I want you to do. Uninstall all items. install the new video drivers if you have the newest ones loaded uninstall them reboot then install all video drivers again then reboot. Then install BF2142 do not set any compatiblity modes install then do the install, MAKE SURE YOU LET DIRECT X9 INSTALL AND UPDATE ITS FILES. Then install the 1.5 patch. test the system.

OK I will do the video stuff first. Then I need a little clarification. I have the original release of BF2142. Sooooo. I need to install it, then 1.4 then Northern Strike then 1.5 in order to get Northern Strike maps to play(at least in XP). Is that what you want me to do?

Then you want Compatibility mode off on all hte installs correct?
Do you want me to set the installs to run as administrator?

Thanks for your time and help.

Game should work fine right out of the box as I have heard from others. Must be some issue with your configuration on your part. Although the "others" are using 7600.

Just install it then patch right to 1.5 and then install northern strike no need to waste time with 1.4 patch or running install or game as admin.

Well I tried that all and no go. Still crashes after switching to full screen. I do still believe it is a video or DX9 problem though. I have the latest version of Nvidia drivers re-re-re-re-re-installed (186.18) and have run the DX9 updater found at microsofts site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

One other Windows 7 problem I am having, that I think is related, is that, starting a few days ago, I cannot set my display to anything lower than 1600 x 1200 on my 21" CRT. If I do the displayed area shrinks but the monitor does not switch to the new mode. I have booted to XP and the monitor/screen modes work fine there.

I wish I had another video card to test.

I would go into control panel then device manager and delete all the monitors you have there. (Might be a bad driver) Then reboot and let it install the default Monitor drivers and see if you can set a different screen size.

I can get BF2142 to work through the following means...

Switch to full admin mode (not just an admin account but THE admin account)
Install BF2142 (I also have the original version)
    Patch to 1.25
    Install Northern Strike
    Patch to 1.5

After having had numerous problems I've also switched to running it with desktop integration and I think it's called themes disabled. Definitely, whatever you do, run it with full admin permissions or it will screw up.

Oh and as a side note, a friend seems to think that Fraps may be causing a problem in combination with battlefield so if you've got that installed, try uninstalling that and give it a go.

I SOLVED THIS! (at least for me)

I had the same thing with Win7 64 bit and was wondering if it was due to that.

When I migrated my data, I also copied over my Battlefield 2142 folder from My Documents in XP to the My Documents folder in 7.

Every time I launched 2142 I got the RendDx9.dll problem as described. On a lark, I deleted the folder to allow BF2142 to start up without it.

BINGO. It launched perfectly. I had to reset up all the controls and such, but that wasn't a big deal. At least it is working now. I didn't have to change any permissions or compatibility or anything. It just worked.

I hope this helps someone out there.
