should I build my own gaming rig or buy one pre built?

I want to know 2 things would it be cheaper to build my own gaming rig or buy one pre built. And what kind of rig could I build with 600 dollars cause I really wanted to test out that intel core i9 processor.

P.S. Please name parts that I could use and I don't want stuff you go to wal-mart to buy that stuff is unreliable.

You aren't going to really get a gaming computer prebuilt for $600. And you are going to just skate by on trying to build one yourself for this price.

Here is an article from Maximum PC that covers a build for just under $700.

It's cheaper to build your own. Last time I built a PC tho which is this one I'm using I spent $600 on just the mainboard/CPU pretty much...all up cost was in excess of $2200 tho (Au) so I can never figure how anyone can build a gaming PC for the money you're talking about. I guess it depends on how hi end you want to go.

In NZ, the Suppliers are fair priced, but we have a store that buys in such bulk, they sell cheaper than the suppliers (Ingram Micro).
So the PC's PBTech sell are as cheap as a custom built one. Its wacky.

$600 would by me a power supply.

    Refer my wish list

    Does not include monitors.
Does not include sufficient cooling for the bad boy.
    Does not include case.

Try this siteiBUYPOWER: July 4th Specials They have the best configurator of any site I have seen so far.....print out the spec's that fall in your budget, and compare to NewEgg....

If you have Windows 7 already you can get a 6770, upgrade the PSU to 550 watts, and upgrade to a Athlon tri core @3000 mhz on ibuypower.....starting with the 4th of July special.....

    I doubt $600 would even buy a i9 CPU.......

    Also,

Doesn't really help the end user with the question that they posted.

User is clearly on a budget and wants advice on how bet to proceed, so posting a dream configuration where money is no object doesn't really help much I'm afraid.

If I were you I would look at any supplies you have available around the house. You can eliminate alot of the cost of a gaming pc just by having some things on hand. If you have some items in other computers that you are willing to use for this project please list them for us to use.

I have built many computers for friends to game with me by using parts I had and parts they had and putting them together.

    You're right.
Sorry, what I was implying was that for any type of gaming machine it will cost a bit.
Even a low end rig would possibly pass as a gaming machine.
But the user wants an i9, which suggests he doesnt want to go low-end.

well it depends. If you want all the drivers and everything at a slightly higher cost by a traditional pc. If you are a do it yourself guy make one!
