    Question regarding laptop power plans


    Hello,

    Sorry if this has been asked before.

    Anyways, in laptops (gaming or not), does setting the power plan to High Performance actually improve gaming (frame rates, speed and anything else) in battery mode?

    I'm using a laptop (not dedicated gaming, but suffices) and my games (the recent ones) slow down whenever I'm in battery mode. A couple of friends told me I should set it High Performance, which I doubted since they don't seem to be the type to change the power plan settings and more so with the advanced plan settings.

    In Windows 7, the power plan settings include tweaking Sleep, Hibernation, USB selective suspending, PCI express link state power management etc.

    I can't really see how these settings affect the performance of video games, but if you already have testimonies that say changing these settings improves your games' performance, I don't see a reason not to try it, except the fact that you'll spend your battery pretty quick, I guess.

    High performance plan keeps the processer clocked at highest speed all the time, irrespective of requirements. Balanced revs up the processor when running cpu-intensive stuff like gaming and slows it down for the everyday things like emailing or word processing.

    Stay with balanced, it'll give you the same performance as the High performance plan but still prolong battery use and keep the machine cooler.

    You might want to try iorbit Gamebooster. On benchmark tests it showed that it gives users a small edge who barely meet sys requirements.
