    GTA IV won't launch (Solved)

    Hi,

So, I recently got my laptop back after my last HDD failed on me, and I have re-installed everything, but it seems as though GTA IV has a problem.

It is not the first time it has been installed on my laptop either. Basically, I will launch, the, erm, launcher and click "play" (with online features) and it will authenticate and sign me in, then the little disc symbol will spin, along with my optical drive spooling up... I wait for about 10 seconds, then nothing. No error, no odd noises, just nothing.

Everything sounds like it's going to launch before going quiet, and I have no clue as to what is causing this problem, as everything else I re-installed ran fine, and this doesn't. It won't do anything past what I mentioned above.

I am about to re-install, and I will update as to whether that solves it or not later.

    Anyway, any suggestions?

EDIT: Fixed it, just needed a re-install. Only had the time until lastnight to do so.

    Running Win7 64-bit Home Premium
    Toshiba Qosmio F60/00Y

    Alright, do the following:

    1. Download and install Revo Uninstaller Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems (Check out this tutorial Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall Programs on how to uninstall GTA 4 with it).

    2. (Make sure your DVD is clean) Insert the disk into your computer and install GTA 4 again.

    3. Update to the latest version (1.0.7.0) Download Grand Theft Auto IV Patch 1.0.7.0 - This is the latest patch for the PC version of GTA IV - Softpedia

    4. Make sure the disk is inserted and run the game. You do not need to and should not launch GTA 4 with the Rock
star Games Social Club anymore, it even asks to uninstall it for you (the patch). Just launch GTA 4 directly. Although for me, I can't go online without Rockstar Games Social Club running, so I just launch GTA 4 normally and keep RGSC running in the background.

Also, update your graphics drivers to the latest WHQL driver (275.33) http://www.geforce.com/#/Drivers/Beta and update DirectX Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX End-User Runtime

    +1

The game being so poorly optimized for the PC platform (thank you, by the way, for that, Rockstar, I will make sure never to buy from you again), it's critical to patch it as soon as you install the game, and NOT run it prior to the patching process. The patch given in the link above will provide you will A LOT of bug fixes as well as graphics optimizations

I will always buy and love Rockstar Games, but they need to pull their shit together for the PC.

I can't wait to see what will happen to LA Noire when it comes to PC.
IMHO? Rockstar are b****s, always were, and always will be; they had 2 good games and GTA3 which is great, everything else is just lol

All their games are good, GTA 4 and EFLC is great, GTA 3, VC, SA, LCS and VCS are amazing (classics), and GTA 1 was really fun back in the old days! GTA 4 and EFLC are quite buggy, but I haven't had a problem in a while for now... (Smooth 30 FPS). GTA 3 is bugged quite a bit, especially on the last level (after killing Catalina) the game crashes (not sure if its the games fault or because I played it on Windows 7. GTA 3 and VC aiming is bugged when shooting, its actually a bit more to the right and up from the crosshairs. GTA VC and SA have issues with the mouse not working (USB)... Asides from that, they're all fun!

1 and 2 are the "good" games I mentioned a couple posts back, GTA3 was awesome, and by far my fav GTA. Vice City was like an emo freak walking down the street screaming "nobody loves me" while trying to cut his veins with a knitting needle he stole from his grandma, while San Andreas was... well, I'll send you a link via PM to show you what I mean. The game is just ridiculous and story-wise pointless because of its perspective; I would explain further, but I won't because I'd go in a direction I don' want to go... Though the vast map is the only thing I enjoyed in SA: I'd just pop someone, take a motorcycle, turn on the custom station filled with music and ride around the map.
As I mentioned many times before, GTA4 is just boring. It is the first GTA game where I hated many of the driving sequences, which is, like, 90% of the game! The voicework is f*****g fake! I mean, was it that hard to find a Serb who can speak english, and NOT hire a Russian instead? Because Niko is not Serbian, neither is his name. Story-wise it has its ups and downs, but the execution, poor performance, bugs, and all the annoying driving around makes me dislike it... a lot! No GTA games were that bad, even Vice City was more interesting. IMHO.

Gornot - No point arguing... I won't win... But I still love GTA 4 and San Andreas the most...
